Hi all,
I am having him out on Wednesday,as I keep banging in about,cackle...anyway, I don't know what to do, what's going to happen. Will I look like aloon for b...how long will he be here, should i make lunch? My last trainer was like a friend and a coffee would suffice, but as I don't know how long he will be here, I'm flapping a bit...lol, bloody excited, anxious nervous about the whole thing....advice please.x

I had Mickey out to do some ground work with my mare who was pushing her boundaries with my OH and her daughter (shes a big girl @ 17.2). he's very straight talking and from my point of view said exactly what he thinks. I know some people might be a bit offended by his manner, but he always can backup logically exactly what he says. I stood, listened and took in everything. He was brilliant with my mare and was leading her round the yard walking like a 90 year old at the end with her just following along slowly.

If your not sure or don't get what he says don't be afraid to ask as from my experience he'd rather leave you happy than not.

Good luck and have a fab lesson with him. We had him for around two hours or so and he wouldn't leave till he was completely sure everything was as it should be.

Enjoy! I have spoken to him on the phone, he was very kind and willing to offer advice on a rescued horse I had who bolted, I get the feeling he cares more about the horses than getting rich quick. My friend in Derbyshire really rates him and says he is concerned about follow up and behaviour reverting after his work so hopefully he will give you lots of advice on how to carry it forward. He is very Irish BTW - I struggled to hear what he was saying lol.

I've watched him work a few times and he has a good eye for the way the horse moves and how to correct problems. I haven't agreed with every thing he's said, but I'd be happy to let him work with mine, as he comes across as very much for the horse and has left the horse's I've seen, better, for having his input.

He's very friendly and talks the hind leg off a donkey.

If you like a spade being called a spade he's definately you man. He can talk very quickly sometimes as well. As JillA commented he does care more about horses than getting rich quick. When we had him he said he wasn't interested in gimmicks, just what worked for each individual horse as there's no one system that works for all.

Enjoy!!!!!!!

Well, sadly my dad had a massive stroke on Tuesday, however I had my lesson. Best thing I've ever done, he did exactly what I asked, and as soon as I got home from hospital on Wednesday I rode him for the first time in nearly two years. Micy Gavin is amazing! Thanks sooo much everyone for the advice.x

Sorry about your dad, but I was trying to find the thread to ask how it went. Sounds very good, long may it continue - and I hope your dad improves too :)

Just seen this thread.

Hope your Dad is okay and his recovery is good.

We rate Mickey highly. He's straight talking, doesn't believe he knows everything and firmly believes he's still learning and always will be, is happy to talk and explain, and has a good sense of humour (which is not used against you!).

He'll want to know what you want from the session and you'll need to phrase questions so you get the answer - he doesn't really do woffle.

He'll stay pretty much as long as he needs to :) Oh, and he likes proper milk in his tea, not the powdered stuff ;)

We've had him out to work with different horses over time and been pleased with the results each time :). He's now working with my new lad as we don't know his history and there's some very open ended questions we're looking to find the right answers to.
