Unfortunately I've been struck down with the dreaded lurgy all over this Christmas. All the horrid symptoms you can think of: non stop sneezing, hacking cough, the runniest and sorest of noses, aching limbs etc etc. Just about managing to muck out my horse, free school him and then crawl back to bed with night nurse tablets. Anyway, today was just the same but as I have a lesson tomorrow, I thought I had better get on and ride. Well within no more than a couple of minutes of getting on him, a miracle happened. My nose stopped running and I could actually breathe properly! I rode for about half an hour and during the session I truly did feel amazing. No sneezing or shortness of breath and no need for tissues. Has anyone else had this experience?
Should the NHS replace the flu jab with riding a horse??

yes you cant beat fresh air and exercise for a cold lol. Aside from the riding the smell of amonia from a dirty stable is the best nose unblocker there is!

Yes, started to feel ill on Christmas day (rubbish :() then yesterday went down yard still feeling like crap, but by the time id mucked out etc was starting to feel a bit better so thought i'd ride and the same thing as you've described happened to me!

Today, however, it was back with a vengence :( I'm going to try and ride again tomorrow though as I've gotta lesson Wednesday so am just hoping I feel better for that :(

And NYE :) Fresh air does definitely help though I think. All the central heating etc can't be good for you!

I've found that. My very limited understanding is that its a combination of the adrenalin and endorphins that are released by riding. I'm sure someone else can tell you if thats true or if i just imagined it.
