My horse reared up and the lead rope got caught around my finger about a year ago....i have had two operations on it to try and fix it,but they havent worked.
So,on Thursday i have to have another operation to have my finger removed. They are taking it off almost up to my wrist, and then pulling the other finger across to make it a 3 fingered hand, and i wont have any stump left.
Im wondering if anyone has had this done,as finger injuries seem common with horses.
Im still not convinced its the right thing to do,and im scared.(whimp)

My horse's back man doesn't have a little finger on one hand, I forget which. That was a horse related injury, I think from a leadrope. It was removed at the base of the finger but on a angle so he doesn't have part of the hand sticking out, if that makes sense.
He said it was strange to start with but soon got used to it.
{{hugs}} it doesn't sound very nice.

A bloke at work has had similar done (he was initially gutted that althought he is a samuri sword collecter her lsot his finger on a cage) and I have to say he has had marvalous results. No loss of grip which was a suprise.

Do you mind me asking what exactly happened to it so they have to remove it? Can you still move it?

A friend of our family has two fingers missing from his hand, it doesn't seem to trouble him really, I guess because you use your hands so much you get used to it quite quickly.

Huge vibes!

A lecturer of mine has two fingers missing from his left hand and he copes just fine. He lost his in a car accident 10 years ago. I broke my thumb when I was five and I still can't bend it or move it propperly. The only thing I've had issues with it was playing guitar.... I still play grade 6 flute though!

The first op repaired a torn tendon. That was in the bottom joint, closet to your tip.I had also dislocated it,and as i dislocated a ligament had torn(in the other joint)and got caught inbetween the joint as it had gone back together.
The problem was they didnt notice this until 6 mths down the line, when my finger was still bent and very sore. The operated to take the ligament out and cut various structures to try and enable me to straighten my finger. This didnt work.
My finger is still very bent,i cant straighten it,and is gradually getting more and more bent. Also somewhere alongf the way,i suffered nerve damage....not sure if this was the initial injury or through surgery. So my finger has a fussy feeling, plus being ultra sore and sensitive.
I can move my knuckle but nothing else.Cant make a grip

OH's gran had done similar damage to finger years ago and totally lost use, it was ring finger, and every time we saw her she moaned about it and wished they'd cut it off because it got in the way eg when pouring tea, but I think she was too old to operate.

Mine is my ring finger on my right hand.Mine gets in the way all of the time and when i knock it,it hurts so much.
I have lost over half of my grip strength.
In my heart i know it has to go as it gets in the way, hurts and is of no use to me,but im so scared about it all.Seeing what its going to look like, how much pain i will be in afterwards,if i can get some strenght back.
The recovery time is going to be around 3 months.
