My husband has a 16.3hh ISH who is 13 and an amazing hunter - over the last 2 years he has become progressively more and more cold backed - now before you ask - we had a new saddle fitted, teeth checked, PROPER equine Physio ( Liz hadland she's amazing) done and all are OK. We suspected ulcers - the vet said unlikely as his behaviour is worse when he is at grass in the summer. 5 months ago for no apparent reason the 'cold back' became ' mount horse and he rears straight up in the air and goes over backwards ' time!
recently a very experienced rider came to get on him and the first day he humped and bucked and then she 'rode him forward firmly' and he seemed Ok. Two days later he immediately dumped her and rodeod around the field breaking her arm - badly. This is a horse who is normally anything for a quiet life, obliging, talented but slightly riggy? Suggestions really appreciated as euthanasia has got to be an option here - this is getting dangerous......
