After seeing many docters i have been diagnosed with TMJ, tempormandibular joint disfunction. which is basically severe pain in the face, jaw. the only way i can describe my pain is like iv broken my jaw!! i have had a 2month break from it and it has come back yesterday morning. if anyone here suffers from it and has any tips to relieve the pain so i can get on as normal. i am taking 500mg paracetamol every 4 hours and diclofenic every 8 hours! and its hardly touching it!!

I Dont have that, i dont think.. But i have an operation on may jaw booked for the 22 of april, to remove some damaged cartilage, replace with a muscle and hopefully, realign the jaw and stop the pain!!

It is either sharp stabbing pains or a constant dull ache like tooth ache all around my jaw. It clicks locks and swells. So I really feel for you

I know someone who suffers and she's has a brace made for her teeth to wear at night. I'll ask her if she has any other tips.

i think il have to go to the dreaded dentist as doctors dont seem to have the time of day for me sometimes.
nailed: i have read on the internet that this can be a cause of it and sometimes surgery is the only option.
iv tried heat and cold and it makes it worse

Only thing thats helps me is lots of Ibuprofen..

Or my migriane tablets.. but have to be honest, i think the jaw issue aint helping the migraines.. so its a nasty loop. I cant remember what the consultant called my complaints.. Something madibular summit or other.. sorry,.. lol

I had this when I was younger and it was awful! My jaw used to get stuck open. As I was young they were not keen to operate as the operation is very big and invasive. I was also on lots of painkillers and went to the hospital and they made me a gum shield to wear at night (teeth grinding at night is one of the most common causes) and eventually I grew out of it. I am now fine.

Sorry to hear that try EFT plug it into search engine it was developed by Gary Craig. It has helped me with pain & has really good results you can treat yourself. it's all about tapping the main acupuncture points. Try it I hope this helps.

my wisdom teeth caused inflammation in the joint of my jaw which was very painfull even tho my teeth were not sore; sometimes I couldnt even open my mouth, I did wear a mouth guard at night but it made it worse, so I had to have all my wisdom teeth out and I Havent had a problem since.

I had to wear a plastic shield at night to relign my jaw because it hurt and was clicking like mad. the dentist diagnosed it by sticking his finger down my ear???? Lots of sympathy though - it really hurts.

You should get your dentist to review the problem and if necessary refer you to an orthodontist. If you grind your teeth at night the dentist can fit a device that will help correct your bite. Sometimes removal of the wisdom or other teeth can help. TMJ pain can be worse at times when you are stressed and anxious and sometimes muscle relaxants can be prescribed for pain relief. The dentist should be your first stop, if that fails your GP could help.
