Has anyone made a complaint against a vets?

A friend of mine did as vet was advocating some terrible treatment, again I won't go into too much detail. As far as I'm aware all that came from it was that she got an apology, waived fees, and never used that vet again although he is still a practising vet within a busy local surgery. She probably could of taken it further but she didn't want the hassle.

Depending on the situation, I would happily take it further if I felt a vet was being negligent or not fulfilling their duty of care. Why should animals and owners suffer because somebody "can't be bothered" to speak up against some bad treatment.

I have.

Same as above. An apology and waived fees. Wasn't serious enough for me to take further but wouldn't hesitate to if I needed to. Happy to explain more through PM if you want/need

I have seriously lost my temper with a vet, and accepted an apology.

Tbh though, my vets don't do ANYTHING to my horses unless I am 100% certain it is the right thing - and I have researched myself etc. Therefore, the only reason I would have to complain is if they stabbed the needle in the wrong place or something.....

Hi
Yes I had occasion to take issue with a locum vet employed by my vets who I had to take to court encouraged by my vets who were shocked at the locums actions. The insurers vets use are terrible to deal with, but I found a solicitor used to dealing with them. PM me if you want any advice.

Yes. Wont go into detail, but ultimately my pony had to be pts. Vet misdiagnosed her, gave me incorrect information and made it clear his opinion was ' why am i bothering as she is old'. There was also a second horse in the horspital at the same time, also there due to being misdiagnosed by same individual.
Vet was sacked and a sizeable amount of my bill was waived. It could never bring my pony back though.

Yes, you may remember when a young vet visited me with an awful attitude. I didn't expect anything to be done, but my charges for the visit (which I sent her packing on) plus the fee for treatment were waived and I had a call from the partner. I was very satisfied with the outcome, so I would do it again. You have nothing to lose.

Yes I have once about one of the partners. Was made to feel very guilty for doing so. Got no apology but did get my bill reduced.

There is an excellent thread on here that is worth reading, very long though !! Someone help me out - I can't remember the poster's name, was it "I think I've been had" ??? This post is extreme tho, as the vet has actually turned out to be an alleged crook I think.

Same here, mine was very serious I felt but I was in no state to follow it up at the time and it was too late anyway :-(

I have when vet operated on wrong leg (both legs had an annular ligament issue, but was unsound only on one), big dispute, but I nding up paying half the fee because they had been good long term vets with no isues in the past, it was just an error - I did not like the way it was handled though - i have a new vet now. Both solely equine practices.

I will contact them next week after having an opinion from another vets. How can they let a situation get much worse to the point the horse cant be ridden again thats what gets me.

Yes we complained and had the bets bill waived looking back due to how serious the incident was and the amount of neglect by the vet to my mare I wish I would have took it further. I was too destressed to think about what routes I coul go down to ensure this man never practised again.

Yes I have, was not serious enuff to do anything other then tell the vet she was wrong and I was not going to have my horse go through that stress as he was a rescue and if she was struggling to cope with him to leave him alone and it completely escalated from there... I did receive an apology though.

I have heard and seen first hand how negligent some vets can be and how easily that can completely ruin a good horse...

I now find it very difficult to trust a vet and while I will listen and take note of what they have advised I will not follow that advice unless I am 100% happy that that is the best thing for my horse...

They are after all a business and there to make as much money as they can.

Yes I have . Once when my colt was castrated and the procedure went wrong. He had to have a further procedure under a general anesthetic which I made sure was FOC and more recently a right Laurel and Hardy afternoon with a locum vet and a 3rd year student trying to x-ray my mares foot. 4 hours, 3 sedations and one viable xray!!! Again, I made sure that I didn't have to pay for such incompetance and got another vet to do the job properly!
