has anyone NOT had weight gain success with micronized linseed?

I don't think I did really, mine only started to gain weight once I started feeding baileys no.4 cubes. One of my friends has said the same too, I don't think it made a massive improvement on his coat either although he had a nice coat anyway. I feed about a mug and a bit a day

That's quite a lot from what I've read on here. I suppose you could argue he would be a lot thinner without it maybe?! I started my mare on it a couple of weeks ago, she is definitely gaining.

I haven't had weight gain feeding it to my TB. He gets 700g a day, his coat is gorgeous, and he looks 'well' but struggle to get him round. He has had ulcers (grade 4 - now treated), and is now on a supplement for hind gut ulcers which has really helped settle him so seems to be working.

Oh I've been feeding m.linseed for about 3 years now, and at 700g a day for almost a year!

sounds like my boy, he was treated for ulcers too, albeit long before i started feeding the linseed! maybe its a tb thing..

Or not enough as the scoops in most supplements are in ml so a 25ml scoop actually holds about 14g so 3 of those is 42g which is nothing really. The mug depends on whether small tea cup or large big mug - easiest to weigh a mug out into a bag and take home and weigh it. Mine has 400g a day and looks fantastic on it with a small handful of soaked grass nuts - she is near TB

ah that will be my lack of knowledge in maths failing me then, i just assumed 25ml was also 25g haha :o oh how red is my face! thanks will do this and see how much he's actually getting :)

I have a Clydesdale and he gets 3 x mugs a day. A mug being the equivalent of an average coffee mug kind of size. He hasn't gained weight but he hasn't lost either and he's not a good doer in the winter. And his coat feels like velvet!!

Hi alsxx - out of interest, which supplement are you using to help hind gut ulcers? x

Weigh the micronised linseed, he can have up to 500g a day if he needs it and try adding Yea Sacc too. Worked for my poor doer (I use pro-hoof which contains yea sacc).

I was always told that over 500gms or likely they will just pee it out as its high protein and they can only process so much protein .
However I think I was told you can feed a bit more if the horse is in very hard work.
75 gms is less than I give fatty so I would up over a few days to 500 gms and see how you get on.
