the debate between barefoot vs traditional shoeing in this months Your Horse magazine?

what do you think to it?
Might be intersting to read next months debate on treeless vs treed saddles.

No, what did they say?

My boy is unshod as the farrier reckons he has good feet. Until my boy shows signs of discomfort I won't shoe him. But if he needed it I would shoe.

As far as treeless saddles are concerned, I know zilch about them, so more info for noseyness would be good.

Ill copy some of what they say

Farrier: "I think alot of barefoot trimmers want to apply their rule to every horse"
"I dont see how any trimming technique can counteract the effect of the hoof wearing away through abrasion. Basically, for an unshod horse to not go footsore he must grow more hoof than he wears away. If he cant do this then we have to help weith the application of shoes. If we choose to domesticate an animal by means of controlling its habitat, diet, workload etc we cant expect them to employ a natural approach to hoof care"
Barefoot: "Barefoot is nothing new, however booming research into the equine foot has made people look closely at why we shoe horses. Hoofcare practitioners are proving many horses can work equally well without shoes. With the right stimulus and conditioning the foot can withstand the majority of the demands horse owners face."
"Most farriers accept that barefoot is best for the horse where possible. Our job is to show the owner how to make this possible"

ITs a full page with 2 columns on so lots to discuss. but thats some of the main bits
