has anyone ridden a "famous" horse?

I rode Jodie Lister's dressage horse Nicky and William Fox Pitt's eventer Balincoola while i was working at Catherston Stud.
I've also been told my own horse is a legend and should be famous, sadly for all the wrong reaons!!!!

When I used to work for Jonjo O'Neill I used to ride Black Jack Ketchum a bit, does that count?
And I've ridden Pasternak, who was a useful flat racer a few years back.

I used to help out at Kenneth Clawson's yard when I was at Uni... So I rode a few of the eventers there... Never Rode Mr Smiffy (who JP Sheffield rode at the time) - but I did brush him

seem to remeber Bowfred and Killcullen Bay also being there..

Not sure any of them I rode were famous enough though... MILO III, Serrana and Miss Piggy II - my favourite was a little chestnut called Nova...

Hi KatB - yeah I used to run the yard for the kyles for 3 years - was a fab experience and so got to go to all the major 3 days/champs, etc. as well as work with all the fab horses. Plus Lauren Shannon has been training with them since she was about 14 whenever she came over for her summer breaks from the USA and so got to see her and her horses grow from novices to what they are now (and let me tell you....Quixotic is NOT an easy mare....to this day she hates men riding her much to Mark's disgust when he unsuccessfully had to compete her at one point).

Never rode him as he was well into his retirement, but looked after Stroller in his twilight years, he was a cheeky so and so who knew how special he was!!

I used to own the top FEI jumping pony Gold Harvest, before he ever started jumping. We brought him as a 5 yr old from a lady who used to let him do what ever he wanted, like graze along the verges with a lorry up his bum. I was going to keep him as an endurance horse as he had great ground covering paces but decided to let him go to concentrate on my other youngster. We sold him for £700 complete with his tack!!

I rode Bar Hammonds Grand Prix horses Chagall and Shayen. I also rode her Olympic horse Krist.
Once at Bill Nobles yard he let me sit on a lovely little chestnut horse he was riding called Leo, turned out it was Torque'O The Devil and was bought by Charlotte Edmonds just after. She did really well on him winning the PSG at the Nationals.

Also the horse that John Lasseter used to do the demo's on, a bay Oldenburg GP horse called Thumper.

Me too - well I sat on him, not sure you call it riding.

Probably the most famous horse I actually rode, was Messaging. He was Barbaro's lead pony!

Other famous horses I have worked with were:

Round Pond - Breeders Cup Distaff winner - sold for $5.5M to Papa Mo!

Chelokee - probably one of the most talented 3 years, unfortunately plagued with soundness problems, but he is back in training.

To a slightly lesser extent:

Preakness7bl.sized.jpg

Smarty Jones (2004 KY Derby winner) - I spent a week at his breeding farm.

Not ridden but I've given lots of hugs to Bosra Sham and Lady Carla on numerous occasions. I'm on "hand-licking"terms with Carnaval Drum and I've brought in and turned out Corrada while she was at the stud . . . . .

Edited to say . . . if anyone has any connections with Andrew Hoy, I'd LOVE to sit on Darien Powers . . . . .

Wel...
Glam (of course)o
Pepino, Alando, Wild thyme (when they were Hen's not with current Riders), Catherstone Decipher, Catherston Doogle, Fabian, Arlequin, and lots of other Younger Horses that have gone on to have very succesful careers, and far too many more Advanced horses to name.

I owned and competed Ellen Whitaker's 12.2 grade A international showjumper. He'd been on all the national teams but he was dead young and he cracked, so he would up in ireland and i bought him to play games on ;P
lol, class games pony, and we have a photo of him loose jumping over 1.30, its amazing! lol

I used to work at Keith Doyles yard so rode most of his although they aren't that famous! Probably the best known one was Oeillet who Tim Stockdale rode for a while.

I looked after lots of really famous horses at the vets but I am not allowed to say who they were!

Just remembered - I bred a colt out of a Master Spiritus mare and sold him as a 3 yr old for £1200 - he then went on to be competed by Tom Robinson and owned by Seb Coe's wife Nicky (now ex I believe). They named him Brown Sauce.

I've hugged Earth Summit and have walloped "Percy" (

whose show name I can't remember but he was the model, along with my ex-boss Jayne Webber, for the Royal International Show's Ladies Hunter Trophy) across the butt many times as his favourite trick was to pin people against the wall.

My OH has ridden the grey stallion who was in Legend (or it might have been Bladerunner), apparently he is also the horse in the first series of Phoenix Nights. He still has a mark where they glued his unicorn horn on. Can't remember his name though.

I have ridden Charisma! as in Mark Todds beautiful Olymic Gold medal winning mare ; If I remember correctly her stable name was Jade! That sounds great doesn't it, however I only hacked her to the river to wash her legs off - but that still counts as riding her!!!!

I've ridden a few.. off the top of my head, i've not just ridden but i've even had the pleasure of competing Shaabrak
grin.gif

Have also ridden the 'Jumbo' sons who are now standing at stud and competing 'Jigilo' and 'Brief Encounter'
grin.gif

(plus anything else of Wiegersma fame
smile.gif
)
I've schooled 'Philson Run' over fences, he was 4th in the Grand National '07 and aiming to do the same this season
grin.gif

Also schooled 'Diamond Harry' winner of the richest bumper of last season.

OK spot the Doh! It was 20 odd years ago, Jade was Andrew Bennies Horse, and I
worked with Andrew in Glo's, hence the confusion. Charisma was on the yard for some reason, and was indeed hacked down to the river...... I am an old bag now, so forgive my memory lapses - small incidents in a very varied life.
Whilst we are on the subject, can anyone confirm, was Greyshott' s stable name Roots, if thats the case, I've ridden him too! Tee Hee
