Has anyone sold a horse at ***** Farm Sales

Have you advertised him anywhere else? Personally I would not put an ad in H&H as I know that i do not ever really look there when looking for a horse, plus you're more limited with text and photos you can include. I always have searched for horses on Horsemart as is more user friendly and when placing an ad you have more control over it and can update it whenever you want. We sold our wagon through HM. I am not sure whether you should put he weaves or not - I guess you should but not going in to details ie word it "has been seen to weave hence £". I do not see weaving as a huge issue myself as think it can be managed - my horse weaves but only in certain situations.

He's lovely, can't understand why you haven't had any interest. Could you try the local PC website - summer hols will be here soon and would have thought he would be just the job. Heartbreaking though to have to sell him :(

Poor you.

I'm afraid I've seen horses reduced from 6K to 2K to sell atm. You will get nothing in the sales so my advice would be to halve your price and get him a good home. Good luck

I read the advert in the H&H one thing stands out a mile....

HOW OLD IS YOUR HORSE????

you say you've had it for 5 years, but everyone assumes that it must be older than they want even if its actually 5-6!

BTW I glossed over it for this reason and if your horses age suits my brief then I would be very interested, weaving not a problem I have one, what he does in the privacy of his own stable is his business! No different to me lighting up in stressful situations!

PM me with more details, I have a home for life 5* waiting for the right horse!

I would advise that if it is simply the cost of keeping the horse that you cannot afford as opposed to you needing to sell him to also get some capital, then loan him! There of tonnes of dedicated people who can't afford to buy a horse but are able to care for one, particularly at the moment! I spent ages selling my mare and got not a lot for her in the end! I would have loaned her out if I didn't need the money from her sale to go towards my new horse... oh and if she hadn't gone to the perfect home!!

Good Luck though xx

It is not just about money with him, it is the fact that he is completely wasted and he deserves better than me. I have stated why I am unwilling to loan. I feel that someone will just want him for the summer then come up with some excuse to throw him back in the winter when bedding and feed goes through the roof (I have it on good counsel that shavings are about to go through the roof, and feed is going to aswell, I keep my horse at a feed wholesaler so it is reliable info). I am flat out at work and have hardly any time off, I need a break from horses to get my head straight.
As for the age thing in H and H, I was sure when I proof read the ad that the age was in there but yes I did spot that is was missing on the ad in the mag :-( He is 9

I wouldn't loan out either, as it's full of pit falls and I've found it somehow more stressful than keeping the horse in the first place!

With the boot on the other foot, I have been a loaner too. Sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't. I've been ripped off, or it's gone gloriously, you never can tell!

As for saying your horse is wasted and deserves better. If you're looking after him well and he's happy, then he never deserves any more than that! Your horse has no aspirations to get out there and win! And if you backed him, then he's only known life with you, so it's not like he's been used to competing every weekend and is bored that your now not doing it.

Completely understand your need for a bit of horse-free time out though....

Would a couple of months do it for you? Could a friend take your horse on for you for that length of time? To give you a break and let you decide whether being horse-free is really what you want?

And finally, with horse auctions, several of my friends have bought really nice beasts at auctions/sales, so it's not only the be-devils and meat men that buy! I also know people who have been in your situation and sold through our local auction. And have met the purchaser and been happy with the outcome, so again, not all doom and gloom.

Good luck
