Has anyone sold a horse because it just didn't fit their lifestyle?

Yes, we took on a 17hh TB from a friend, her description was, "compared to Kitty, he's a donkey" Lovely, lovely horse, like a big dog, but he was bored as a happy hack and spooked a lot, we decided to let him go and sold him to a workmates daughter, I cried when, for the first time ever he hesitated to go in the trailer to his new home. He is much loved and does shows etc most weekends and due to doing some work has never spooked since. We now have an ex brood mare that thrives on a quiet life.
Horses for courses

No im too soft hearted...all my horses end up staying with me now...only ever sold 2 on in 30 years, i tend to make them into what i need within reason...and up to now have been lucky all three of mine can turn their hoof to anything, altho i just do low level stuff so they have a life of riley anyhow lol

Yes pretty much. Sold my 16.2 tbx mare who was lovely but not one you could pick up and put down she needs ridden every day even at 16. Would never have wanted to lead my daughter from her either and because I didn't have time to ride every day I stopped riding her and put her on loan. Loan people ideal and bought her at the same time I'd just bought a 13.2 for me and a sec A to bring on for my daughter. The 13.2 is ideal for riding when I have time, will be perfect for leading off in a few years time and a few years after that be ideal for my daughter (but i will keep her even if she isn't because she is ideal for me and I'm in love).

Tbx is now with 15 yr old who is eventing and playing polo cross.

Everyone wins IMO!!

I must admit I hadn't fully considered loan but it's something I might however as the horse is in such little work it'd be a huge task unless you knew her/of her! Likewise I'd have to know the loaner pretty well too!
