Unfortunately I wouldn’t have the first clue where my nearest saddler is, as I’ve never had a horse in the UK, and I do know that my cobbler (traditional type, mends shoes, not just glues new heels on) is within walking distance

Did you not find the rivets abrasive on the interior surface? I was thinking about a leather patch, rather than anything more rigid, but aluminium would be more hard wearing.
