Has anyone taken their shetland in the house?

Has anyone ever taken their shetland pony into the house? We did years ago as we had a very large hall and kitchen and I knew someone that used to take one into their lounge in front of the fire but I wonder if anyone on here does it and if so is their pony 'house trained'?
 
My aunt does this with some her minis that can be trusted in doors. You'll often walk passed her window and see a little horses head looking at you! She has lots of washable brick floors in her house though ... not sure she'd do it if she had carpets! She is known as the 'eccentric mad horsey woman' by all who know her! I love it, but my hubby would have an absolute fit if he came home and found a pony inside the house. Ole misery guts that he is! ;) xx
 
Mine escaped from her field this summer and wandered in our open patio doors and then pooped all over the kitchen and weed on our lounge carpet. Stank of mares wee for ages despite being cleaned. I was seriously angry with her!
 
I remember the Sky TV show ponies programme last year where a show pony strolled in to a cream carpeted lounge with the family and they made a carefree comment about him joining them for tea. I thought - I bet that is not a regular occurrence with that carpet!!

I confess our hall kitchen and dining room have stone flags so are pretty well Fatty proof
 
What lovely replies. I was wondering how they train the mini Shetland therapy ponies to visit care homes etc. and not leave a calling card. Also the ponies used in the US as guide ponies which do a wonderful job but who cleans up after them?
 
Yes - my little shetland (9hh) loves coming in the kitchen when the weathers warmer and I leave the door open. He has been known to go back outside for a poo, and then come in again! Some years ago, I had a friend stay with her 5 year old pony mad daughter - I have a wonderful memory of us all sitting around the kitchen table having breakfast, with pony mad daughter mounted on the pony, munching a piece of toast.....fantastic!
 
On my 12th birthday I came downstairs to find my present in the kitchen- a little grey mare with a red ribbon round her neck
 
How lovely! Hubby immediately banned me from bringing our two in our house we are now in as we don't have solid floors (I think this may be to make sure I don't sneak them in as he frequently used to have dreams of coming home late to find me and the minis snuggled up asleep in bed. :)
 
Years ago we often brought them into the garden. One day I went into the house to fetch something, turned round and the little one was strolling through to the kitchen. We all had a good laugh about it then promptly booted her out before any accidents happened....
 
Ours have let themselves in uninvited - and not all mini-sized either!. Hubby now has put a sign by the back door 'No Horses beyond this Point". They can't be left unattended anywhere they can get access to the back door as they know how the latch opens.

One of my old horses marched through my mother's hallway and helped himself to the vegetables in the pantry. That parquet flooring was never quite the same again - and how he managed to squeeze himself into the pantry we'll never know. (we reckon his thinking was that he'd seen where the carrots came from so he'd be helpful and save mother a job.)
 
We used to have my nieces shetland pony in there bungalow all the time, she lived in the back garden and to get there had to go through the front door and out the back so she could go into her stable lol. She often used to open the door and wander in and attack the bread bin !!
One night when i was babysitting, i looked out the back and pony was no where to be seen, i hunted high and low in the garden, but eventually found her standing next to my nieces (who was about 6 yeas old) bed, the pair of them fast asleep !!
She never made a mess and would stand in the front room watching the world go by lol

No, but once I found my 2 yr old ISH and 11 yr old eventer in the living room.

They both were on the end stage of field rest and we roped off the driveway exit so they could have full roam of the paddock behind house and land in front of house. Clearly, they must have got bored, came up onto the patio area, saw the TV was on so thought they'd settle themselves in the living room.

A friend does have a Shetland and he frequently goes in their house and lies down on the sofa.
 
Sadly doorway to horse ratio is wrong for me, but I'm sure mine would take up the idea like a shot (all 16.1 of him).

We go for a chat with the farmer every evening after supper and he sticks his head and neck through the door and does a Bisto Kid thing.....you can see him sizing up the sofa and fire and thinking it would do very nicely indeed....
 
A friend borrowed my shetland to mow the lawn, and discovered him rifling through the kitchen shelves 15 minutes later. He was eating her burger baps. All very cute, but play time was ended when he tried to go upstairs.
 
I'm loving this. I thought I was the only adult mad enough to want to bring my 16hh ID into our house but I'm not sure she'd make the tight turn from our lobby into the kitchen... but she could come through the front door I suppose....

I only mentioned it earlier this week to my husband and was greeted with that exhausted and frequent look of "here she's goes again"! My horse would love it, she's so nosey she notices me opening our downstairs curtains every morning and I'm sure she'd love to come in for a look round - I bet she'd find the pantry in no time! :) :) :)

I remember being very young and Bimbo, our 12.2 grey Welsh pony, came into our kitchen - it was so exciting!
 
Years ago a whole bunch of our driving friends used to go on a 10 mile pub crawl, on New Years Day, and leave their various equines tied up outside, all except one that is. He was the drive's mascot - a hairy Shetland that travelled the whole distance in the back of a land rover and then came through the door of every pub for cuddles and carrots.
