Has anyone taken their shetland in the house?

My Shetland gelding let's himself in when they are on the lawn. He waggles the door handle with his lips and then pushes the door open. It's a bit slippy for him on the kitchen tiles though so I have to lock the door now.

Love these :) When Merry died, Monty would go on walks which involved coming into the house ... he loved it. He was so well behaved that we actually used to take him to local hospices and such places so that patients could have their animal fix. He was in the paper for that :) He also went to the pub for a photo shoot and that went in the paper too... he liked the pub haha

Sec A has been in my house too and my chickens regularly wander in, have to chase them back out or they scrounge off me when I am trying to eat my dinner. They then just stand on the patio looking at me through the dogflap in the back door hoping I'll take pity on them and let them back in.They wander into my workshop at the end of the garden too and get under my feet.

I only have one of one of the guys at the door..

I knew someone whose son thought it would be funny to take their 6 month old exmoor foal upstairs. It was fine... until it was time to go back down the open plan wooden stairs!! He ended up having to be carried by two strong men, neither of whom was very amused.

My great granpa was a bit loopy so it was no surprise when he came home with a Shetland pony sat on backseat of his jeta! He was a two year old he found chained to railings of a petshop and paid a fiver for. He lived in the summer house in the garden ( garden was 80ft long and 20 wide) and used to sleep on my great grannies wicker sofa! She was as potty as him and used to take him into the kitchen for jam and crumpets on a Sunday. Grandpa had him for a year before he found him a companion home with two other shetties on a small farm. They used to go and visit him at weekends and grannie would wear her Sunday best to the muddy fields, high heels and all!

We did once as kids (lived on farm and horses at home) and my stepdad went ballistic, we didnt even quite make it to the kitchen, we only got as far as the boot/utility room before we got caught... never again! lol

And No, we do not play football in the house, that would be sooooo wrong!

Thank god you said that about the football! Would have thought you REALLY silly to play football in the house. So much potential for damage!

:p

And she went walkabout, had a look out the front door, nearly went upstairs, hubby stopped her in time, then I get a call asking if money plants are poisonous as she had had a fair chunk out of mine!

She is a naughty monkey who thinks she's a sports horse in the paddock :)

Shes absolutely adorable. Is she shown / whats her breeding?

She's registered with the British Miniature Horse Society, has a tiny bit of shetland in her, she's by Asils Picasso but she's only a pet, a bit close in front and a little wide behind! We have two, her mate is a diva and runs around in circles when she's anxious, unsurprisingly she's officially called Twizzle aka Coco, she's half American with illustrious breeding but she's only a pet too.

Clipped out here but getting spottier by the day and they are coming out gold coloured!

Lovely pony pics! When I was little, the grey donkey and the gold Afghan Hound used to lie on the rug in front of the drawing room fire. The only concern was that Mouffed (the Affy) would get the fur on his feet singed by sparks. He was prone to sticking his feet in the warm ashes!
As I remember, Donk had free run of the ground floor and wandered round the kitchen, where he usually got in the way, so got flapped out. Otherwise, he as like a big dog. He never poo-ed in the house..

What a lovely story - like so many on this thread. I am SO enjoying your replies - thank you.

Wouldn't it be great to design a house with a sort of vast stone-floored bootroom next to the kitchen with nice scruffy sofas where the horses could come in for a bit of warm chill time and a chat?

Yes, it would!

My house used to be a shed. When I am a mad old widow I'd love to turn some of it back into a shed so the horses could live in it too

This is Magic having a piano lesson (we were having the house done up so little chance of 'mess' - OH would not be impressed if he caught him in on a regular basis) but we do have stone floor in the kitchen so Christmas day - lets see!

Hi Patchworkpony, he's spotted pony which I know technically makes him not a Shetland as they can't be coloured but I thought I'd get away with it - he's also 23 y/o, completely black in winter and summer and totally white in spring when all the black coat comes out !
