As the title, they are featured in Horse & Rider Magazine, December issue. Just wondered if they can help as they suggest in the article.

Yep I found they were brilliant!! I put them round my share mare's neck, clipped it into her mane and it seemed to really keep her focused and quite rhythmic especially in trot.

I was thinking about buying some for my mum for Xmas as her her gelding isn't keen on hacking alone - he jumps when birds flap about in the hedges, and I thought these beads would be nice background noise so he wouldn't notice birds so much. It was just an idea, so I'll follow this thread with interest!

I've got some, mare hated them since retired comp pony so kept thinking she had a sash and was doing a lap of honor. Anyone wants mine, feel Free to ask. But they're pink

I ride a horse for a lady who brought some. IMO total waste of money. They weren't very noisy so doubt they would really work at desensitising to noise and they didn't make any difference to her sharp mare. £60 too which was a bit of a joke as they were cheap looking. If you really want too try just get some long jangly bead necklaces from primark!!!

There are rhythm beads and rhythm beads. Some are cheap plastic beads and some are wood and stone and most have bells.

There is an article in the December/January issue of Horsemanship Magazine:
www.horsemanshipmagazine.co.uk as well, which might be nice to compare.

They can keep a horse focused and give a rider a good rhythm, but I guess things don't work for everyone.

I don't use rhythm beads - my horses would disown me :o - but I do use the bells for lungeing and especially on young horses - you can buy them for a few pence at any craft type shop, and i simply tie them to the roller/breastgirth/saddle or wherever you want - they are great for helping horses into a good rhythm and while they don't obviously block out scary noises they are a great calmer :D

and there I have been all these years thinking that I was responsible for ensuring the horse was in balance and rhythm and knowing the horses rhythm by feeling it through my seat! :p
I can see the point for young horses on the lunge though Rowreach

funny there is a lady with an arab near me who has just this minute ridden past with her pink set.. with bells on ;)

they are bloomin noisy in trot, what ever happened to enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside!

Knowing my luck frank would still spook at some random noise... then spook again at the noise he just made leaping with his rhythm beads on!

I bought some years ago, didn't cost much. They are nice for young horses to help establish rhythm and used now and again, they're just another tool in the box to add interest when schooling.
Wouldn't say they make spooky horses bombproof hacks, but they can be a distraction and quite soothing. However, if you're planning on going out for 3 hours, leave them at home. The jingling will drive you mad by the end of it. Another benefit is that the sound alerts people that you're coming and horses settle into the pace. Perhaps that's why horses being driven often used them.

Do they sell those in Ann Summers??

That is, I confess, what I was wondering

Bizarre idea, at first glance :o I had a stirrup strap with clippy bits on I was trialling last night (long story) which was jangling like we were wearing bells so probably a similar phenomenon. Pony didn't notice, even when I started trying to play jingle bells with them :D Just made me feel like an elf.

I did vow to put bells on his Christmas gear though for our festive hack

I got mine from equinewhispers on the net (google it!) you can customise your own colours, bells (number and size etc from what I remember depending on how noisy you want it!) and the length etc, they weren't too expensive and they arrived quickly.

i must admit i'd never heard of them, i only clicked on the thread out of curiosity as i thought rhythm beads must be some kind of new fangled sex toy. :D
(for humans not horses!)
