Has anyone tried shrinking denim breeches before?

I have a pair of lovely tredstep denim breeches, but unfortunately these days they are miles too big for me (well at least a size up). So I was wondering, has anyone every shrunk their denim breeches using the hot wash method or had them altered by a seamstress? Or would I be better off admitting defeat and ordering a new pair in a smaller size?

I tried once with a pair I bought in a sale but were too big area bud the calves. It didn't work. I must've totally boiled them at least three times but the blinking things just wouldn't shrink!

Sadly I have the opposite problem. My lovely Mark Todd denim jods seem to have shrunk in the wardrobe, particularly around the waistband. :(

Send them to me I'm a pro at shrinking things especially my husbands very expensive favourite jumper. It then seemed to magically disappear until I had a few too many drinks and owned up to what looked my 8 year olds sons jumper!

I think that anything with stretch in it wouldn't shrink. Cotton and wool do but man made fibres would perhaps go baggy as the stretch fabric fails. I often take tucks from front of knee to ankle as the lower leg of jods are always too wide for me but for big alterations it is probably not worth it.
