Hi

Was just wondering if anyone had used these with success? I have a horse with a abscess in each of his hinds :( and want a good turn out boot as iam sick of gaffa tape etc.

Many Thanks

Not used one. I used a size too big Old Mac as a turnout boot over the poultice when my fella had an abscess.

Justine states that this boot is not a turnout boot and to contact her if you want to turn out. I'd give her a call and see what she recommends.

How big is your horses foot?

Hi

Thanks for reply. Hes a 14.3hh but has smallish feet. He had shoes removed a few weeks ago and has started with his yearly abscess. (always seems to get them in November). Its costing a fortune in vet wrap and gaffa tape, which isnt really an issue but the time aspect is. I wanted a boot that I can poltice and then turn out in.

I have a trimmer coming at the weekend who im hoping with measure him for some boots. :)

This is the one I used for my colt when he was in a hospital plate plus dressings and had to be hand walked. Think I had the medium for him and that went over the shoe + dressings. Smallish feet though as he is only a yearling, albeit already 15hh

Would think you would need to pad round the inside to make the fit snug around the fetlock to stop it rubbing for turnout, although he was fine walking (and leaping  ) for 30 minutes twice a day in it.

I have also used a Davis boot for turning out in; but i vet-wrapped the animalintex on first, then pulled boot over top, which is tricky but it helps the boot fit more snugly when the vet wrap is inside.

i also recommend using a small loose-ish bit of tubi-grip round the pastern, which stopped the boot rubbing where the folds of rubber ruck-up, if that makes sense!

I'm following this thread with interest as my horse has been seen to bite at his, and has been known to get them off! He's destroyed his old poultice boot, so interesting to see what other people are using.

we use those boots on mine if he gets an abscess - found they are really good as he can pull gafa tape off and the old macs and easyboots rub him - only thing is trying to keep these dry - mum used to wash and tumble dry them each night when he was in at night for the next day :) xx
