Kelly has a Gallop fly rug on now, and it seems to be wearing well (she isn't very easy going on her rugs!) it's very soft and covers all areas well. It's a 5'9'' and cost me £34 and I think it's well worth it, from the other rugs I've seen! Its very Kelly proof with lots of clips and fastenings so she OR the other horses can't take it off!
Had one, it fitted George really badly and ripped very very quickly (he is good with rugs). But a 16.2 h/w maxi cob is not always good to fit, but hey, lucky me the £100 rambo was perfect!
Good job the £100 was okay!!
forgot to add, Kelly is 14.2hh and fairly "medium weight" (dont know of breed, she is rescue pony) she isnt a show pony but isnt a cob either
My WB came with one that appeared to have had little wear. I ended up getting him a neck one so put the Gallop on my veteran. He practically lived in it all summer and it did really well. End of summer had a couple of rips so got it repaired and it's back on now.
My horse destroys rugs (cheap or expensive, he doesn't mind!) so I bought him a Gallop one for £20 as I felt disinclined to spend £100 on a weekly basis. The fabric it's made from is ok, it has lasted reasonably well (for which read that he hasn't completely shredded it yet) and though the fit on the neck cover leaves a little to be desired it's pretty good overall for £20 and does the job. However, I believe Premier Equine has some fly rugs reduced from £50 to £30 if you want to spend a little more and get something that is probably better.
I have two gallop fly rugs for one of my horses and they are fantastic in my opinion.
Combo fly rugs dont fit him as the neck is too small but these two fit perfectly and cover everywhere they should cover. He has ripped a very small hole in one but it was very easy to fix
Yes, mine was cheap as chips and has done me 2 seasons. I've had to make the odd repair here and there, but that's more to do with horse being stooopid rather than rug being at fault! I did take the neck off it though, as I thought it was rubbing, it seemed to slip down. But most of the other makes I've seen seem to do that so I don't think it's a particular Gallop fault.
Definitely good for the money.
I have a hand me down one which I've repaired and used over the last two summers on my big gangly TB. It has been great and hasn't rubbed him at all, unlike a Masta one that I bought him which rubbed him raw in less than 24 hours. I might even get another year out of it but if not I'd be happy to buy another one.
had one several years ago and it was fine-one of the few rugs to fit native ponies. bought one last year and it was rubbish, came up very small and wasn't as well designed neck wise.
