Has anyone used Alpha2EQ for hock arthritis?

My 5 year old has recently been diagnosed with hock arthritis. She has had hocks medicated and a Tildren infusion. Vet is suggesting Alpha2EQ next!
Would be great to hear people’s experiences! Thank you in advance

Yes our vet suggested it for mine who has hock arthritis. I assume you are insured?? It is very expensive!

I discussed with my physio who basically said there wasn’t as much long term evidence about its effectiveness compared to Arthramid. Also my limited research on it is that it’s more suited to horses that are higher performance and may need multiple injections of it throughout a year as they make up a solution of it (with the horses plasma) and have to use it within a certain timeframe. So if you are competing heavily or at a higher level it may be more beneficial.

Ours is 14 and does pony club etc so we went for Arthramid. It’s helped her a lot! Arthramid lasts 1-2 years usually before the next round is needed and it has a lot of very strong evidence in hock arthritis.

My skeptical view was it makes the vets more money to use the Alpha hence them recommending it! I suppose it depends what level you are at and what your other options are, mine said Alpha or Arthramid or steroids but the latter don’t last as long x

We have used both Alpha and Arthramid for various things but for hock arthritis we have always used Arthramid. It has worked very well with top ups every 2-ish years.
