I'm thinking about using an equine nutrition expert, someone independent from the feed manufacturers. Has anyone used such services and what was your experience? Thank you!

Try http://www.equinenutritionist.co.uk/ also has a Facebook page and you can sign up for a newsletter. Has a fabulous book too that I recommend.The Truth about Feeding Your Horse
I have utilised the distance advice service - complete a form with you & your horse's specifics and get a very comprehensive report with recommendations/suggestions.
But Clare will also come out and help too and offer consultancy. If you are near to her I think it is easy but she will do further afield but needs a few horse to make it worthwhile so a yard would be good.

Thank you both. I looked at her website and wasn't sure whether to try the LNG distance service. We're in Yorkshire so a visit is a bit unrealistic!!! I will use the long distance service. :cool:

Which is why I liked Clare as she is independent and can not recommend her own products. Saying that, I've heard great things about Forage Plus, but after so many confusing responses from different feed nutritionists, Clare was a breath of fresh air. If it helps OP, I used the long distance service too and was more than happy with it. I also highly recommend her book.
 
I've received my report from Clare. On the whole we are doing ok but the report included some really useful tips that I wouldn't have thought of nor knew about!
 
Yes my Mum had a nutritionist expert come out and weigh her horse and review his diet as he has EMS and its been a long recovery after a bad bout of lami last summer. I can't remember her details but i can find out but she was brilliant and suggested some great feeding suggestions. I highly recommend using one if you have a horse with a certain condition that needs managing.
