My 5yr old basset has just been diagnosed with arthritis in both shoulders and has been put on a course of cartrophen. I was wondering if anyone has used it and what results they got. Its a 4 weekly course of injections and then an annual booster so im hoping it makes him more comfortable.

I was told there supposed to last a year which is why they have a booster every year, damn i hope it lasts longer than short term. thanks

Only worked very short term for my cat - the booster did bugger all.

My little collie x has been on these injections now for three months. My surgery recommends the weekly injections for 4 weeks then monthly. I noticed a huge improvement by 3 1/2 weeks. She has just had her second monthly injection and she is going great.

thanks for that i found it very interesting, then i used to be a chemist

My lab is on Cartrophen - I think it is fantastic. He has the four weekly jab and then a booster every three to six months depending on how he is going. He is only three but has OCD in both elbows, he has been on Cartrophen for two years now and he out working 2/3 days a week during the shooting season and the days he is not working he out following me on my horse - so that's an awful lot of exercise and the Cartrophen keeps his lameness at bay (so far anyway), I also know friends whose dogs have had it for arthritus with excellent results.
