Has anyone used herbal supplements/alternative remedies for arthritis?

Cider vinegar, micronized linseed, boswellia. Bioflow boots and keeping the joints warm. Removing as much sugar from the diet as poss seemed to help too.

My 14hh 25 yr old pony was diagnosed with DJD about 5 years a go with a poor prognosis. I scoured the market for something at was going to be affordable as well as work. I have tried and tested many products but the one that works the best is Arthi-Aid - I get it from www.horseheathwessex.com and a 1.5kg tub costs £42 delivered and lasts about 3 months. Micky is doing really well, and often spotted doing (and winning!!) chase me charlie at a gymkhana!!

Good Luck - Bex

My boy (Gus) is an Ex Police horse and has fairly bad arthiritis in his rear hock, I have to say I swear by Cortiflex its a bit expensive but one tub for abotu £50 (the big one) last for abotu 3 months so its not to bad.

I believe you can make up your own mixture for about half the price you'll just have to look it up online, I couldn't tell you wha it is off the cuff.

The main active ingredient is Glucosamine Sulphate which is found mostly in of crustaceans and insect shells, but you can't really go feeding a horse crab. however I believe that there are types of feed out there that include fermented grain, the likes of corn or wheat are high in natural Glucosamine, which should in turn help.

Sorry feel like I've just given you a science lecture.

Cheers John.

Devils Claw is meant to be good - I use a MSM etc suppliment called Premier Flex Plus which also has devils claw in it and after trying several other mainstream supplements came back to this one for my boy as I 'think' it helped him the most.... difficult to tell if it was the supplement, Devils Claw, weather etc etc

Bute-X from Global Herbs. Within one week my horse went from tripping and stumbling at walk (basically not safe to ride) to cantering us up the side of the field. It claims to work within the hour and I could well believe it, but I had to introduce it to old Fussy Chops over a week as it is very pungent. Bioflow wraps worn at night have made a big difference to her first steps out of the stable level of stiffness too.
