A non-horsey friend of mine was wondering if I could use Reiki on my horse to help him with his arthritis and kissing spine. After Googling it I realised there are people out there who practice it on horses.

Has anyone on here ever used it? What did you think?

I know you need a vet's referral for it, but I was just wondering what other people think.

It won't cure his arthritis or kissing spine but it may just relax him and put him in a better place mentally. Animals do tend to lap it up and fall asleep. We use it to get pulses down for vetgates ;)

Ps Everyone has a bit of ability in this respect. Reiki is just one version which uses symbols to focus the intent.

I think you are supposed to inform your vet.
We tried with a mare very bad with laminitis, sadly it was too late for her. It was remote as well, maybe hands on works better?

I was very impressed with it. My reiki lady was also an animal communicator, so she does healing as well as communicating. She was able to tell me very indepth information that she couldn't have known about my horse and also that of my previous horses, even down to colour of the cat we lost 20 years previously.

She said there were four horses in my stable, and a dog and a cat, and they were joined also by one horse had come to say hello for a few seconds and was chestnut (my first horse, my mare). These were obviously all spirit horses (thank God otherwise it would have been a bit cramped!) .She said my one horse was very sorry he never got to say goodbye but he got a sudden tightening across his chest (Billy my beloved WB who I had for 2yr 10m and dropped down dead of a heartattack in the field) and she said another horse Rommy who had wobbly legs (the reason I had the reading and who had to be pts at Leahurst with wobblers). She had to cut our session short when she was telling me about Rommy as I was sobbing at that point. She was very very good and it is uncanny how she knew about the cat, there was not one person on the yard who knew i used to own a cat all those 20 years ago. http://www.soul2soul.me/

Wow! It's amazing when things like that happen isn't it. Quite spooky really. I'd love to find someone who could do that to Bertie. Although I'd be gutted if they said he hated me and was really miserable!

I have a young filly with aggressive ringbone and I have put her on turmeric twice daily with micronised linseed and fresh black pepper in her feed. She is turned away at present so it's hard to tell if this is helping and I will see come the spring when she will be rexrayed and examined, but I have an ridden arthritic mare on it too and she is moving so much better and is full of life she feels so good. Ther eis a user group on facebook called the turmeric user group and well worth joining - there are files at the top of the page with lots of information and reports of successes with different ailments. Turmeric is a very powerful natural antioxidant.
