Has anyone used the RS TOR?

I havent, but will be interested in any replies. I have thought about using one but I cant quite get my head around why it is so expensive and if its really worth it! My pony can pop in a bit of a cat leap if he gets excited and I did wonder if it might be a useful extra handle.

I use to hack out with a lovely lady who was in her 70's and used one. She had a fairly sharp welsh pony and I know it helped her when he spooked and spun a few times but more importantly it gave her extra confidence.

There has been thread about this before so worth checking what people said then..........but I have one.

I bought it when I started riding after 30 years off and since I felt very weak and riding a spooky horse I didnt want to take any chances. As I progressed I used it for when I started jumping and doing XC. It does allow your hands to move which a neck strap or a balance strap dont - thats its key thing. The rubber section means it doesnt jolt your arm or shoulder much.

It did help anchor me for several spins and some leaps sideways but needs to be adjusted to the right length or it doesnt work so well. It made me feel a lot more confident and I didnt know I even had it in my hand. Its very comfortable.

A friend who used did say that when she fell off she fell so close to the horse that he stood on her, when otherwise she might have been thrown clean away. (thank goodness for back protector!) and the only time I came off when I was using it (cat leap over a 2ft9 fence) I landed standing up - which is good but also bad in that I could have damaged my foot.

It is very well made and yes it is expensive but I am sure if you dont like it you could sell for high price on ebay /preloved.

I had one when coming back to riding after damaging my back, it worked in that it gave me the confidence I deperately needed.
Never had to test it though, thank goodness.
Feel confident enough to ride without now and have a saint of a horse now so I have just recently advertised mine on preloved and it sold within a couple of days.
About half the price I bought it for a year ago.
Was definately worth the money for that added safety net and peace of mind.

I have one! After a nasty fall months ago and the fact I have a baby horsey needed something to hang on to, and help my confidence.

Haven't needed it till today when ponio was fall of it after an injury. Reared and bronced due to overexcitement, definitely helped, specially with the bucks and my position. They r expensive, but work better than a neck strap so in my opinion, worth every penny :)

i made one for my friend -much cheaper! they are good i think for confidence but she had a habit of having very busy hands and it helped a LOT . :D

I have one and they are good. I think you are paying for the design and quality of materials as it has just the right degree of elasticity and can hold the weight of a human being flung around (!!!) as necessary. I used it to get confidence taking a young horse out hacking when I had no one to ride with.....helped me a lot.. Its also sits comfortably in your hand with the reins, its quite expensive but is worth it in my view. I'm not so keen on neck straps because if you do come off and horse becomes loose, if they put their head down to graze their front foot could become caught up if neck strap falls down the neck and they put their foot through...

My YO has one and swears by it.
She is a competent rider, but has had confidence issues, and while I would doubt it has ever been properly tested since she's had it (so can't vouch for its actual effectiveness), the confidence it gives her is worth every penny. She also says she's very cack handed and never carries a whip for that reason, but has no trouble holding the RS-Tor. :)
