has anyone used this for headshaking

My horse is a headshaker, i can talk for hours about it

She was on shakefree and zephyr combined from Global Herbs which wasnt that expensive and actually worked very well. i tried lots of other things and they didnt work.

She wears a full face fly mask in the summer and a nose net all year round (her head shaking is severe and she only really has december when she dosent shake that badly).

These things seem to have eliminated it, although sometimes out hacking she can be quite bad depending on the trees - shes allergic to tree pollen.

I swear by something called happinose. It is a human natural decongestant balm. I put it in my horse's nostrils before riding. This combined with NAF shake relief makes it possible for him to compete all season, and even go for a hack through the woods which would not have happened before. Headshaking is so strange, each horse is different and different things work.

I have come to the conclusion that my horse is mainly "allergic" to small flies. They bother him an awful lot.

I have used various different things on my him. Hes been on Gold Lable's brand of anti shake stuff, combined with (human) antihistamines. This combination helped a bit, so not sure which really worked.

I have invested in a nose net, which again, has really helped. BUT I cant use this when doing fast work, as he doesnt seem able to breath properly when using it.

I have tried nostril vet as well - complete waste of money, as couldnt get it up his nose, and when I did it didnt work. (Although having said that, he may have been in the "habit" of head shaking then, as it was mid-summer when I tried using it!)

If its flies he has a problem with then i would feed him garlic in his food.

Im surprised he cant breathe in the nose net when doing fast work, ive hunted and done x country with hers on and never had any problems.

Which net are you using? because there are a few on the market these days and yes some do limit the breathing, Equilibrium being the most popular nose net, that’s ok but I have in the past used another more expensive one on a horse, made with finer mesh and cover not only the nose area but around the mouth area too and the horse ends up breathing his own breath back in again so their not getting a fresh oxygen in take, I had to stop using mine when doing fast work, so yes some can cause problems, but it depends on which net your using, sorry I can't remember the make of it but it was more expensive that the equilibrium ones.

ok I just thought it was worth mentioning just in case it was the other type that all.

one of my horses is a head shaker and we use a nose net for him and also we thought my other horse was a head shaker but from advice from others we are going to get the piece of leather cut away behind her ears on her headpiece and pad it as we have found out it isnt headshaking but she doent like the pressure behind her ears which is causing her to head shake
