It's only been two weeks since I got him but can you notice a difference in my 5yr old welsh d gelding? The first couple of pictures are from when he first arrived the last one is from today. I'm going to start working on building his muscle up and take a picture of his progress each month or two, now that's he has settled nicely. He's been in a small paddock for the first week with no grass but unlimited hay and his vit & mineral supplment mixed with mollases free dengie hi fi chaff and hinilayan salt. The second week he moved to his main field that has lots of grass and he still gets his feed each evening too. With half an apple and one carrot each day with it. Also gets hay when I brush him for about half hour or so each day :)

It won't let me load the new pics. Just give me a few mins x

I don't want him bigger than what he is now, just needs muscle now. You could feel his ribs a bit and really feel his spine and sunken area near withers when he first arrived. X

Ah, I can see all the pictures now. Still looks good and weight seems to have increased from the first pics, and perhaps a bit of a hay/grass belly. He just needs work now.

I really, really like him.

I know your supposed to be able to feel the ribs slightly but I didn't like how you could see them when he turned and when you ran you hand along them he seemed to ribby for my liking, it was a bit bumpy, so I just wanted him to gain a tiny bit especially since it's winter now. He will definitely get more exercise now and he only eats not even half a flake of hay a day as he is out in grass 24/7 :)

I certainly wouldn’t be wanting to see any more weight on him. I think we see far too many overweight horses and get freaked by being able to see ribs when in fact we want to be able to see their outline.

Please don’t put anymore weight on this pony! He looks perfect.

Granted muscle takes longer and is harder work to build but is so much more satisfactory in the long run.

Don't worry everyone I already mentioned I'm not putting more weight on him now, just wanted a bit more than when he first arrived and wondered if anyone could see the difference in the pictures. Gradually working on muscle now with proper diet and exercise but obviously that takes time. :)
