Has other livery's behaviour ever made you leave a yard?

as above, bunch of sad nasty prats with half a brain cell between them practically living at the yard lol horses should be fun
smile.gif
The worse yards I've encountered were the larger ones around Bristol, every yard I've been on in Wales has been wonderful (will all two of them lol)

Yeah - young lad repeatidly sat on his yearlings back in a stable full of straw smoking a fag - sorry but i don't want my horse burnt alive thank you!!!

Yes, They were nasty stuck up people. The thing that bugged me the most was I could see their horses not getting the correct care.. just certain things not be done the way they should be. (feet not been pick out, horses clipped but not rugged) In my opinion if you choose to own a horse you should give that horse the best care and treatment possable, if you can't provide this...don't have a horse! The last straw for me was when they put 2 new horses into my horses packdock (which I paid £300 a year extra to have for just my 4) Without telling me or asking..I came up to 4 sweaty, out of breath horses and a padock which was basicaly just mud! That pi$$ed me right off but for them to then tell me that all the horses had been fine together was just a joke! They'd be running up and down all day poor things! We moved.. I now stable at my mum smallholding and it's great! Would never go back!

Yes one of the reasons I left my last yard was because of another livery. Turned out to be the best move I have ever made though- I am now on a super yard with amazing people and because of that I achieved things this year I never dreamed possible

Edited because I didnt actually answer the original question which is why? Because said livery was a nasty vindictive bully!

yes someone used to write nasty things in a book for everyone to read, and it was all over jelously because i competed and did well. she also put washing up liquid in one of my horses water buckets to dehidrate her!!!! another girl had her stirup lethers cut by the same girl and had a nasty fall we left together!!!!

Sounds like the same yard i was on !!!!

No I haven't, but OMG some of your stories sound horrific. I would have left them in a shot!

I must be lucky that every yard I've been on has been lovely, my last yard I was at for 15 years and wouldn't have left had I not moved away.

Thankfully no, I've met a few odd liveries in my time but none that I felt I had to leave a yard for.

Same here. From reading some of these posts seems like we've been extremely lucky so far!

Yep, left today

(Ditto asbo post)
I left the school play ground years ago, shame others are still in the play ground......
Also did'nt like some of the things that are going on.... upsetting at times.

Yes because the YO’s and one particular livery didn’t like my new horse and turned all bitchy, so moved to my Mum and Dad’s which was about a 40 minute drive from my house, so then moved house!

Are you having problems Lis?

No, but sometimes I feel like it. Today I've been made to feel guilty about wanting to look after my own horse - how does that work?! I've also encountered a nasty bully who thought she run the yard (and was/is a total brown-noser with the YO) and insisted on doing favours for people and then complaining about it behind our backs (that was the most minor issue she had...) I never felt I had to leave though, but she's driven a few people out before. I had cause to leave anyway and am better off without her, but I didn't leave because of her!
There will always be issues between horsey people - it's how you cope with it that matters.

Yep every livery yard I moved to had the usual bitchiness usually aimed at me. Sold my horse in the end couldn't take it anymore. Huge mistake but unless I can win the lottery I'll never go on another livery yard again. They're all rubbish around here. No nice livery yards.

I've left quite a few yards either because of silly stupid liverys and not wanting to watch horses suffer the yards in Basildon in Essex are awful for this people dont have a clue or because of the nutty yo's being just as a bad! lol Just had a row now with the girl i share my current yard with aswel... Starting to regret leaving the private yard i rented!

Not so much a livery as a liverys horse. It was very aggressive and I didnt want it turned out with mine but yard owners wouldnt separate the grazing so I left because I didnt want my horse injured.

Yes, several years ago another livery who was a raving alcoholic and punchy with it - not that I actually fell out with her but I could see her behaviour deteriorating and knew it was only a matter of time before she tipped clean over the edge - and I didn't want to be there when it happened. A couple of weeks after I left she punched one of the other liveries. The lily livered YO was too frightened of her to ask her to leave or do anything about it.

I left my last yard due to a lot of 'playground bullies'. In the end I was so depressed I didnd't want to go to the stables. I now keep my horses on a farm -just me and my horses-no school, but two stables and a huge tack and feed room. My girls have a huge field to run around in, which they share with a herd of sheep in the summer . There are nobody else's horses to chase them around and ruin their rugs and no risk of them being kicked by somebody else's horse. There are no patronising barstewards telling you how you should take care of your horses and basically its a lot less aggro and a lot more pleasure!

What is wrong with all these people? I'm not at Livery now but have been in the past - I've had a few err... 'eccentrics' and 'know alls' but no nastiness.
It seems to me if they spent less time standing around gossiping and bitching and more time actually doing their horses there wouldn't be a problem! They must have very sad little lives that they feel compelled to get into these power struggles at the yard. You might expect it from teenagers but to find adults behaving like that is quite frankly pathetic.
Don't let them get you down - remember why you are there, be civil and don't get drawn in.

Yes because the YO was cruel and if you disagreed with her she would take it out on your horse! and no but i had another livery and her daughter telling me how to ride, horse care etc which i didnt mind at first but then it turned into bullying and in the end they left before the YO kicked them off saying i had ruined their lifes etc (oscar winning performance)

Not livery, but YO. The v lovely yard I was at was sold, and the new YO was unbearable
frown.gif
She fed my COPD horse hay (why did she think I had haylage in my barn?
confused.gif
) and wouldn't stop interfering in such manners, as well as her new "rescue" dog
crazy.gif
attacking my then young horse's face so that he would no longer tie up
frown.gif
I got out of there as soon as I found a field.... V glad to have done as well given the reputation that yard now has
crazy.gif
Very sad given what a lovely place it was

Yes, the yard owner's boyfriend said my name in his sleep. She was convinced we were having an affair and tipped me off the yard. He was a bit of a plonker, I had more taste.

I left a yard because of a YO too rather than another livery.

The YO refused to do anything about the fact that I was attacked by another horse turned out with mine every time I tried to bring her in. Getting charged at, reared at and double barrelled wasn't the most pleasant experience.

I ended up having to have 2 other people with me when I brought mine in. One to ward of said horse, me to grab my neddy and one to man the gate whilst the two of us hot fotted it out with mad mare following behind.

One day, I turned my mare out in the wrong field
blush.gif
and the YO went mental at me whilst I was holding my then 20month old, swearing etc.

I was only turning her out for a couple of hours because of bad mud rash, really didn't want the battle of mad mare and the livery who normally had her horses in that field was the one who told me to bung mine in there.

YO wasn't around to ask, didn't have a clue what time she'd be there and only arrived just as I was bringing mine in.

The general attitudes at my last place were what caused me to leave. Most of the people there didn't have a whole load of experience, but felt they could compensate with the amount of cash they spent. So unfortunately there were some super horses in gorgeous tack being ridden by complete t*ssers
mad.gif

But the final straw was when some of my stuff started being "borrowed". These people could all afford the best stuff, so whose stuff do they take??? The nearly-broke student"s gear!!!

Yes. There were some good people there who I was sad to say goodbye to but the place was used as a creche, nasty kids whipping and punching their ponies, and some very ignorant owners who were causing there horses to suffer.

The worst thing was the YO herself, who had a dreadful temper and mood swings. She absolutely hated it when people left, it was just not ALLOWED, it took me weeks of making myself ill with worry when I had to tell her I was leaving. On the day I left I got to the yard to find that she had taken all my stuff from the tack room and thrown it all over the yard.
