When it first came out it seemed like the answer to everything, a round ring could cure all ills, shaking a rope could get your horse well behaved and if you wore a cowboy hat you were really making a statement.

So whats happened? It would seem the Yanks didn't know it all after all and the tried and tested methods of the British have won through.

Im not knocking Monty as he does seem compassionate even though he is totally up his own backside lately (money does that).

Parelli yuck yuck yuck what a horrible couple they are.

So was it a fad or does it still have credibility??????

I think both have their followers, but many people have realised now that they can take sections from any of these to help them, and don't have to do the whole carrot stick / dully halter thing.

I personally have used Montys methods for loading a very difficult horse, with great success - and have found some aspects of the parelli ground work useful with nervous types, just to more touch and handling under way.

However, much of their methods are common sense, which is my favourite way to handle my horses, and tbh seems to be the most effective way IMO

Why have several posts about Parelli suddenly shot to the top of the forums? Some from years ago...am i missing something?

  i wasnt aware it ever had credability? parelli is pure (naughty word ;) ) and all monty talks about is how his dad beat the crap outa him.... I dont go for this 'alternative horsemanship' type things, i have been swayed to the heather moffet way of riding and saddles but tbh its just common sense.

But to answer your question i havent seen as many people in pointy white sheets chasing horses around lately

Ok so as you can tell from my cake offering I'm one to sit back and giggle at posts relating to this however I do have an opinion which is this....Parelli was always a money making scheme with a cowboy and his wife who managed to discover that if they abused and confused their poor horses enough they would do what was asked however oddly, cue ooohs and ahhhhhs from people wanting their horse to follow them like a dog and *give paw* lol. However i do believe Monty Roberts basic theories and principles in regards to the respect of space between human and horse and the understanding of what is threatening non threating *language* to a horse actually is very valuable. BUT I think join up and all tools associated with it are total bull... if a horse trusts you he/she will follow out of sheer choice because you are their safety as their 'leader' its very simple herd psychology at the end of the day :)
