As an update to my thread about a livery she has now decided it would be best all round to sell him.

I am really pleased as this is the bet thing for the pony but he is 4 now and still unbacked. He is a lovely chap, if you like Sec D's, and a rich bay colour with a white blaze and four white socks with all the usual welsh lines, will make a fantastic allrounder for someone but,

do people want 4yrs old who haven't done anything, and what would be an appropriate price in the current climate for him.

Any thoughts.

TBH I don't want to post a picture of someone else's horse. She has asked me what I think he's worth price wise hence the post. I'm not into natives so haven't a clue.

He is a lovely looking welsh D, quite flashy. Can't remember his breeding but I think it goes back to welsh parc flyer ?? but then they all do don't they /.

Parc Welsh Flyer :)

Okkk, well, for what it s worth, there are differing stamps of section D, some more short coupled that are prized for in hand and some are more rangy, what is his immediate parentage please ? as that could give me an inkling as to what he will look like :)

Look against those for sale on horsemart, H&H etc and go with an appropriate price. I wouldn't be put off that he hasn't been broken but has he done the basics i.e. been bitted, well handled etc?

Yes he's been well handled and bitted. He has had a saddle on a couple of times and been absolutely fine.

He deserves someone who will love him enjoy him and I think they will have a super horse once they've put the time in.

I don't actually like Sec D's but I do like this horse LOL

Don't know his immediate parentage but he is short coupled and doesn't have the high stepping knee action that some have. He moves nicely and is not hugely chunky leg at each corner type.

By the sounds of things, he's ready to be backed this year - so perfect for the experienced person (welshies shouldn't be started by novices IMHO!).

If I was looking for a youngster I would prefer something that hadn't been 'half' started, much better to start them as you mean to go on IYSWIM.

Price wise, I'd advertise him at £750 and be prepared to negotiate down to £600 for the right home.TBH, weeding out the numpties, dealers and those who travel will the hardest part.

I bought my welsh d mare last year as an unbacked 5 year old for £900. She is a really nice sort and apart from the odd buck and being very cheeky she is lovely. She had been bought straight from the breeders with her mum so that her mum could be ridden by the kids and mine could keep mum company.
Depending on where you are I would be tempted to advertise for £950 then you can always go down in price.

I love the fact he's 4 and not backed... I can't stand to see horses backed so young. Personal pref, backed at 4, turn away winter, school at 5.

That way, a horse is well developed, mentally and physically without your usual back and leg problems further down the line...

Love welsh d's :D
