I have had two ponies on restricted grazing since end of may begining of june , one got laminitus due to the hard ground and they have both been in yard for a couple of months since. He's been sound for a while now and they both go out for a few hours on a small patch of scruby grass. I want to put them back out on their winter grazing this week but am really worried there is still to much grass. the grazing they go on in the winter is rough common land and is mix grazed and doesnt look very green at all but i'm still a bit worried.

I live in the south and we'v had a lot of rain and some warm sunny days the last week . What do you lot think??

Ours is still growing- we are still strip grazing, and the piece we took them off 3 days ago is already looking a shad greener..... for me this is good news, for you maybe not. Autum grass is full of fructans so probably a pain for you!!

nearly, ours has gone pretty yellow but I like to be careful till the end of the month especially as it has been so warm this year.

I think we are due for some frost for the next couple of days here what does that do to the fructans ? should now this really.

Frost increases the fructan levels. Grass is barely growing now, but not completely stopped.

Mines gone pretty naff been putting hay out but they are still grazing something as they just come snatch a few mouthfuls of hay then go back to the grass....so with this sunny spell I guess I'd stll be a bit wary..

Dont worry, just do your homework, lots and lots of advice on the internet which can conflict, however speak to your vet he will advise you well as he knows your ponies

Our fields were like a desert til last week, now a little bright green fuzz has appeared all over our resting fields. Fat cob has already devoured the small amount that grew in her field!!
We have been giving ours hay since August, the grass just died off! No real rain for three months! We are near Dover, Kent.
Mind you, enough rain last week to make up! xx

Hadfos--Yes all summer they go out for a few hours and then come in yard free range with hay and access to cart shed, one was on box rest with lami for a while but not now. Was hoping they could go back on common as grass was mostly burnt off due to lots of sun but was worried because we had rain for a week now so it may green up. they usually go back at end of the month.
