I noticed yesterday that Vardi was on the change again! Now accepted that he he is half Appaloosa but his colour changes have been somewhat dramatic;

This is a pic taken yesterday - Notice the big tell tale dark bay patch on his face;

So what do you reckon I will end up with this year??? and more importantly will his rug collection still suit him

Mmmm....you may need to rethink your rug colours!!!

My wb passport describes him as steel grey, with a steel grey mane and tail and 4 dark hooves - the only thing that is the same is his hooves!! Here is piccy to make my point....

Would love to have seen him when he was steel grey all over - bet he was stunning!!

Can't say any of mine have really changed - only from loosing the foal fur, does that still count ??

He is an Appy x DWB he was bought as a blanket spot (well that is what the passport says!) only thing that remains on the passport is the white stripe on his coronet band. Thank god he is microchipped or I will never get him out of the country!

Last year he morphed into a Varnish Roan and now appears to be getting more of the bay through again. His mother was white with bright bay leopard spots so frankly I have no idea what I am going to end up with......whenever people visit the house and see the various photos I struggle to convince them that I only have 1 horse and not a herd!

Maybe its his winter coat coming through??
Some appy's can be born blanket, turn into a varnish and then finally end up a Leopard Spot. Maybe he's taking after his mum ?? I don't think they can get darker, but then I haven't really done much research and the whole appaloosa genetics thing is so confusing.

I bred from a pony mare whose papers said 'born black to go grey' (she was indeed grey when I got her) and her filly was born bright chestnut. on shedding her foal coat she turned strawberry roan and by her 3rd birthday was rose grey!

My chestnut seems to be getting white hairs throughout his coat, until I clipped him on friday he was almost like a fleabitten grey in reverse!

Ditto this!

My chestnut mare has white patches on her flanks, hindquarters, chest, a couple on her neck and her face.
