Just wondering how many people's horses have finished / not finished moulting yet?
I should really make a note of when Alf starts and finishes. He has PPID so I'm not expecting him to keep up with healthy horses, but he's only shed about half his coat and I'm worried about how the increasing temperature will affect him. I can clip him if he starts getting unhappy, but I wanted to gauge how others' horses are doing so far this year?

My 11 yr old is pretty well done, my 24 year old still has a fair bit to go on back & quarters. They both seemed to start a bit late this year and the older one gets a thicker coat than he did when he was younger. Neither were clipped

No :( Still stuck around his hind. I'm pretty sure if he didn't have the SI rug on he'd have rolled most of it out by now. He even has a blanket clip, what is left is so dense.

Ax

If it helps my old cushings one has lost most of his neck/chest but is decidedly fluffy over his back/quarters.

My mare has been very weird in her coat this year. Last year she had a full summer glossy coat by early April. This year her coat has really only started coming through in last week or so. She was clipped out, but the saddle patch is now coming out in handfuls.

Neither of mine have finished yet, both are currently living out 24/7 un-rugged and were incredibly hairy. My cob has usually finished moulting by now but I've never had him unclipped and un-rugged over the winter before and this is the ponies first winter with us, so no idea if this is due to the weather or lifestyle.

nope still working on the back end and legs (which is why I cheat and do a late full clip). He's oldish and native though but has always held onto it after he needs it!

CF still has a bit of a blanket on his back, but he did get lobbed out properly with no rugs about 6 weeks ago.

TF has progressed from shaggy yak, to woolly pony, will probably all be out by mid/end June & then start thickening up in late July.....

We seem to be a bit ahead of most people! Just a little left on the top of his bum but his clip lines have gone now. Will be lovely to not get covered in hair every time I so much as look at him!

Left half a head on and it's coming off gradually, whenever he has a major scratch. I caved and clipped weeks ago. :redface3:

Welsh x boy still has fluffy sides and lots coming off his bum, but it's been stop/start this year. He had a clip at the end of October, and I reckon the line will still be visible for another 3 or 4 weeks, then we'll get a few weeks of sleek, shiny coat before he starts growing for winter, lol.

Not quite!

Bit of fluff on the middle and bottom but can see his summer coat though it. Just hanging onto those last few strands it seems!

No. My sec a seemed to be moulting well, handfuls coming out at a time. Now seems to be holding on the the rest for the moment! She was like a woolly mammoth though!

2 x tbs. The older one who is a very warm horse just has a few bits left to come out on his quarters. This is very late for him to still have fur left, usually he's the first to start moulting. The youngster feels the cold a bit more so has hung on his though it is coming out. It didn't help I was away so got behind on grooming it out.

No! :(

April is still a two tone pony. Being roan too she going through the winter/spring white coat stage and still hairy. Flicka is as well, although she isn't as hairy and has more summer coat showing through on her shoulders. Benji, I cheated and clipped out fully late. :)

Pepsi is doing the best out of them so far. Just looks a bit patchy but most of the fluff has gone. :)

My highland has a chaser clip and I'm expecting him to have clip lines for a couple more weeks yet. I threaten to clip out every autumn, but never do!! So, he'll be done by mid June and start getting hairy again in August .... Good job I love a hairy horse!

My section A finished weeks ago bar a few guard hairs on her belly. My Shetlands are all in various stages but mainly hairy. My Spotty is mainly done except his butt and my cob is almost done...

I feel much better now - it seems Alf is not alone!
Next year I'm going to be brave and clip it all off before he starts ;)

Mine are all still moulting like mad. Alf is being quite tidy about it - it's just gradually getting thinner. Jim has summer coat on his neck and shoulders, but a big fluffy blanket over his bum, and both the little ponies are surrounded by a cloud of hair wherever they go! One of them is in a burkha, and every time we take it off, we have to scrape off a carpet of hair that has built up underneath it!

Nope - despite having been losing it since February.

He's an Irish cob, never looks particularly hairy but obviously has a very dense coat. His clip marks disappeared in March but there is still shedloads coming off his back and hindquarters.

My clipped TB has long since finished but my Sec A is only about 1/3 of the way there - his head and up to just behind his shoulders are almost done but the rest is still woolly. He looks like he's wearing a cloak that's slipping off! I'm grooming him but it's not really falling out in handfuls.

My ISH has just about finished over his neck and shoulder but some still clinging on over his back and quarters. I can't use any type of shedding tool as he hates them... Though rubber curry comb works well. He's been un rugged for the past month though so maybe the chillier nights have slowed it down? Though some have said its to do with the light levels and longer days rather then temp??

My 8yr old highland is driving me mad he has has a good half of his left to go! They are not out on the grass yet though!

Mine has lost about 95% now including the cat hairs on his stomach and back legs. He's still losing bits when he's groomed/scratched but he doesn't look like a yak anymore thankfully :)
