I went to try on the Champion Ventair hat today, I tried on the 6 7/8 hat and that fitted snugly altho when I bent down it did come loose and wasnt that tight on my head when bending down but when stood up it was snug. I tried the 6/58 which was way too small as it just sat on top of my head. Im ordering one online (to save money) not buying it in the shop.

So how tight does it have to be to fit?

You should be able to fit a finger between your hat and your head (only to the joint below the fingernail) but no more ive always been taught, and it definatley shouldnt fall off if you move/bend over if its not done up. It shouldnt be so tight that it gives you a headache though

If neither sizes fit you then its probably isn't the right hat for you. Have a look around at different hats and when you try one wear it around the shop for a while so you know if it will give headaches. I found an Onyx fits me very well as I had awful headaches from the Champion hats.

It needs to be a "snug" fit as these hats do give a little when bedded in - Ive had 3 and love them. It should sit just above your eyebrows when secured, and you should be able to shake your head to check the fit isnt loose. This is how it should be should you fall off. The drawstring at the back helps to secure the fit too. Hope this helps.

If the hat fits then I want to be able to shake my head around without it coming off and also ride for hours and hours without getting a headache. Some brands don't seem to fulfil these two requirements regardless of size so I think shape can be an issue also!

It didnt move when I shook my head just when I bent down. There arent many saddlers around here. Im now looking at the Charles Owen Ayr8. If I can get to a saddlers to try one on.

Chances are it is wrong shape for your head.

Hence, one hat cant fit everybody! You shouldnt be able to fit a finger in as that means it isnt snug

Got to say, my aunt owns a tack shop and cant stand people like you! You go in and spend ages trying things on, and then take down the size and order on line, you are trying to save a few quid, but what about the sales person who had to have training to advise you? Its like having a builder around for quote and ideas, and then having your dad do the work, Complete time wasters
