Basically, I'm getting really frustrated at having no money and no horse. So this is just a general rant basically.

Does anyone have any good money making ideas for a 15 year old? (Nearly 16)
As I need new riding stuff and clothes in general. HAHAHA!
Oh yeah, I have a job already but it's rubbissshhhhh!!

Also, does anyone have any ideas on how I can ride? I can't afford lessons and there are NO horses near me who need a rider or someone to help care for them.
I feel like i'm stuck in my house.
Grrrr!

So, IDEAS. :D

Thanks M'dears!!!! :')

Just a thought......you say you ""can't afford lessons"? so does that mean that there is a riding/training yard nearby? If so, why not offer to help out by mucking out/cleaning tack in exchange for lessons? I went down this route when I was your age, some schools are pleased of the extra help if it means they don't have to actually pay you in cash and can let you join in lessons instead!

There is but they don't need any help (already asked ;})

Is there a local RDA near you? They are always looking for helpers, not sure if there would be much riding opportunity but its a start :)
You could also find a summer placement at a yard over the summer which would be a good way to build up your practical skills and you may even find a yard that lets you help exercise the horses.

It is difficult when you live in a rural area without your own transport but could you volunteer with RDA or some kind of charity - rescue centre, urban farm etc? Even if you offered to work with a dog's charity you would meet more 'animal people' who might have some horsey connections that would help you.

Are you the same person who posted about this last year? It rings a bell, a young person keen to be with horses but strapped for cash in the Skipton area.

I'm in Lancashire, a little too far away to be of help. :-(

You could try local competition yards nearby if your riding ability is any good, see if they want free exercising help. Worked out for me once.... They needed someone to exercise the horses that weren't competing that day, and I got to ride decent horses without the expense.

How about trying to do little jobs around the town for money? Like newspaper rounds! Where I am, my friend earns £20 a week from doing a newspaper round! (Though it depends on which newspaper you're with, one of my friends does 100 papers and only gets £10 a week, but the other one only does 20 newspapers and they earn £20 a week! They are both with different companies so it all depends.)

I'm way down South from you, so no help at all really. But just wanted to say that I am sure someone somewhere will help you out. When I was around your age I didn't have a pony/horse either. But I was so lucky and several people offered me rides. Since having my own horses I have often let other people ride and compete on my horses. Not willy nilly, but people that were in the same position as me years ago. Good luck - I hope you find something. :) xx

I was the same at that age too. I suggest you just advertise on every website you can, and if possible get involved in horse activities even if it doesn't involve riding, like volunteering for pony club etc. It is sickening sometimes watching 8 year olds have everything you want(I can't help that green eyed monster)! I have found all my shares and part loans through websites and when I buy my own horse soon I would love to give someone like you a chance to be horsey but I am far away :-)

The annoying thing is once you have a horse it is pretty easy to find people who don't have enough time to ride theirs, that is the way of the world I guess!

P.s. find facebook groups too :-)

P.p.s I helped out at a riding school from about 10-15 and the best I got was letting me have an hour lesson instead of half hour once in a blue moon! Considering we did all the heavy unpleasant jobs I do think it was child exploitation!

Contact all your local horse vets' practices, too. They can be remarkably useful in introducing you to useful people. Good luck.

What happened to your horse that was escaping from his field the other week? Did he run away?! Lol ;)

I'm sure there is more than one local(ish) riding school, go ask everywhere and everyone...as a kid I literally went off on my bike and asked about/left notes at riding schools and livery yards till I found something. You can't expect it to fall into your lap, it's much harder to get taken seriously a a kid too, especially if you're (like I was) not especially outstanding as a rider!

I really have the feeling that I recognise you from before.

But never mind. If you really want this you need to make some horsey friends locally. People might help you if they meet you in person where they would not respond to an ad.

When I lived in Skipton we used to go to Silsden Riding Club and West Craven which was in Earby at the time. Why not join the clubs, volunteer at shows, they always need help to set up and steward on the day. Talk to people, help them out, make some friends. Often word of mouth is the best way to find opportunities.

You would need to get a reputation for being mature and reliable for this to work.

You could also try the Pendle Forest Pony Club, we used to go. Not sure if they ever have anything for non horse owner, but it might be worth a try, again you might make contacts.

The pony was not mine, I helped look after it for a friend. Unfortunately I don't look after it anymore..

I've never heard of west craven or silsden riding club. Maybe I should look it up, Hang on.

West craven gas it's shows near barnoldswick... There will also be stud farms etc in the area I'm sure... I am a little too far away near clitheroe.

Draughton heights is closest to you I would think. Check out preloved... A good website for looking for shares/loans/helpers! I have found people to help with mine through preloved!

I thought you posted the other day about being Ill and can't get out the house much due to your illness.

I'm joining the others in the skepitical club

Pinkcob I'm confused. I thought you and a friend were bringing a thoroughbred back into work?!

Yep and due to being ill I can't.
Also, you may remember I said I was lacking confidence. So I decided not to bring it back into work as I don't want to risk injury. Besides, i'd probably mess it up anyway.

Yep, I'm ill. I have polysystic ovaries, endimetriosis and extra cysts. I'm having a laparoscapy in a few weeks.
I'm not here to start a fight, I don't really mind what you all think. Be skeptical, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I'm not a liar. I'm after a fresh start. I want a novice horse to ride/look after. Not riding for a while has completely knocked my confidence.

But I just ask you this, please, don't assume you know me or my situation. I see people are thinking i'm someone else. Well I'm not. I moved to Skipton 2 years ago and i'm all settled now.

Any questions please ask below.

Pinkcob,

If you are lacking confidence, a "novice" horse is the last thing you need to be looking after and riding.

Do you mean a horse FOR a novice?

If you used to look after a horse can you ask around the yard its kept at & see if someone needs a hand or knows someone else who does.
And a paper round to pay for lessons in the meantime?

I'm not sure I can be sympathetic anymore - you've had a variety of horsey options open to you recently but seem to have deffed them all off as unsuitable...if you were that desperate you wouldn't have.
Annoys me as I had a friend who ha the same attitude as you, constantly moaning that there was nothing out there/life's so unfair etc etc but not doing a great deal about it (other than whining) and then finding fault with any solution offered within weeks.
If you really want it enough you'll go out there and find it.
