As I said, I hate to be that person, but its that dissertation idea time of year, and was wondering if anyone thought anything that would be interesting researching
I'd love to do an olympic based or sport based one - I'm a bit of an eventing geek so feel like this would be a good area.. however thought the title "why did the brits do so badly at the olympics" a bit of a wide one..
I love the equi ratings concept, as well as the ERM series, think they are both very good for the sport

Something I always think would be interesting reading would be a systematic review of the evidence for various different supplements/treatments/interventions... basically anything that people get very heated arguing over but never look at scientific evidence for!

Maybe something around selection?

i.e. Do the selectors pick the people most likely to win, or do 'names' stand a bigger chance of getting on the team regardless of their performance over the last 12 months?

Also, the more specific your question is, the easier you will find it to write coherently on it. Make sure it is something with measurable outcomes!

If you can get the data from BE, you could look at whether aspects of horse's performance at a certain level is predictive of success at 3/4* level.

Thanks for all the ideas! a lot to think about :) looking more towards horses/riders previous form and how this may affect their selection chances

You might look at how competition structure effects training norms and if this can be used to produce less serious accidents .

Or you could look at how horses careers are managed ie if they're competing at a high level at 6yrs what are now doing at 13 yrs and those currently competing at the top at say 15yrs old what were they doing from age 4 etc.
