The fearless childhood stage? Believe me I went through it, but it never reached my horse riding. I am almost infinitely more confident now as an adult as I was as a kid! If a horse bolted with me as a teen, I'd be terrified - in tears, and not wanting to ride that pony again for quite a while. I ride a spooky horse often now and when he does it, I chuckle at him for being so scared of silly things (like cartoon frog fillers and a flickering light that has been flickering as long as I've been at the yard) and reassure him that it won't eat him and keep on going. So don't feel bad about missing that out: it doesn't necessarily mean you'd have been confident now. Patience, the right horse(s) and the right instructor are all you need!
