Anyone got a set of rules. I always wear a Beagler for BD (ie no chin strap)and no probs. I was asked to 'watch my hat' at a RC comp the other day from which can I assume I need to wear the full harness ie British Standard. What a blow that will be - the nanny state again I suppose......

yeap your right you need proper hat from RC- you'll be elem with nice beagler or patey

Hardly, I imagine they are only insured for riders to ride at the show whilst wearing a BSEN hat!

Its similar to the "if you fall off in the ring you cant get back on" rule.

I don't suppose your horse will notice & refuse to perforn though.......

(NB Your team manager will have signed a declaration on the entry form saying that all team members have read & understand the rules. It may be wise to have a quick scan of the rule book before the competition, as it would be a shame to be eleminated for an accidental transgretion caused by not knowing the rules).

I do a bit of RC and bought myself a hat specially for it. As my skull just did not look smart enough.Never wear it except for BSJA and RC!

Yes, it is an insurance-based rule (I remember from when I had the dubious pleasure of being n a commite). Also, you have to appreciate the furore that would occur if you did have a fall, got kicked in the head etc... People would be demanding to know why you hadn't had a secure hat. Which could just as easily happen in BD but RC are responsible for promoting saftey with horses wherever possible.

The worst that can happen is that they eliminate or tell you you cant ride without a proper hat. I believe there are similar rules about xc and body protectors, vaccinations etc.

I wouldnt want to waste my money by entering and travelling only to be sent home.

Completely agree but they dont comply with BD about vaccinations either and at the RC Nat Champs they will turn you round on the driveway to the showground if one of your vaccinations 10 years ago was a day late.

They are a serious bunch.
