I used to have a pair from the last generation; they were one of the best sets of clippers I have ever had. Blades were easy to find and the clippers themselves were wonderful.
The new generation of Hauptners are not the same and look somewhat flimsy in comparison, but having never used them, I am guessing here.
I sold my old Hauptners when I couldn't clip my youngster with corded clippers. Really regretted it when I got my 2nd horse! Managed to get another set on e-bay and it was like slipping on a pair of comfy old shoes, just felt right! I learned to clip with Hauptners and apart from the cordless ones I got havn't done much clipping with any other type!
I have the Hauptner 2000's and they clip very well, I have had bother though with the cable working loose so they wouldn't switch on which they had to repair last year.
The clippers never overheat and are nice and quiet but I have found them to need servicing regularly, ie at least once a year, The nylon plastic blocks do need replacing regularly so I have found it handy to have some spare.
I have also found that the blades are very precise and I have found that 'normal' clipper blade sharpening places coldn't sharpen the blades correctly, so I overcame this by sending them to the UK Hauptner Agents, Ritchey Tagg and they do a good job of the blades and servicing.
They are really good clippers if you look after them!! Mind due I would say that there are other makes ie Heiniger clippers that clip just as well! - hope that helps you and sorry for the essay was just trying to list the pro's and con's as clippers are expensive!- oh and I have found the Hauptner fine blades to be, if anything too fine so I go for the normal blade.
Look at the Peasridge clipper website, they stock a make (can't remember exactly what it is called) which are virtually the same as the 'old' haupther but they use Lister blades.
