Remind me to throttle small white pony that Moon is in love with BEFORE I ride her next time!!
Scrambled on board today for first time after she's just had a 2 month holiday- all I can say is thank god for neckstraps

New tb was super though

PMSL, whereas in my case it is me who needs their bumps feeling - third time of riding after 3 weeks off I school on monday night...as only in walk work I decide not to bother putting stirrups on dressage saddle. It was fireworks night. I had no neckstrap...

So i am as stupid as your horse!

Neckstraps are amazing, more essential than a bridle in my eyes

It's nice that our guys are keen to work at least....

I agree, I just struggle with them as I have very small childs hands and cannot cope with holding both.....I am too inept! Even XC I prefer to grab the mane!

Well yes, 3 weeks ago we were both feeling a bit flat. He is not feeling flat anymore!

i always use a neckstrap, but god knows why as i have never ever reacted fast enough to be able to grab it when the drama starts... i tend to remember it just as all 4 feet calmly come back down to earth again. something wrong with my reactions, i reckon.

Just did not occur to me what the date was until the noise started!

Oh well, I am hard to get off, but my god did my legs hurt the next day!

I've learnt to slip a finger under my strap when I feel the horse tensing up, I have a thin starp fairly loose so that I dont have to alter my hand position!! Find it really helpful for horses who've had their heads held over fences as it gives you the security of having something to hold onto without relying on the reins!!

It's no use for out-of-the-blue naughtiness though

Neckstraps are SO under-rated! I think the prob is a lot of people feel it makes them look amateurish
smirk.gif
so, so silly!

SC & Boss - sounds as though you are both going to have an entertaining week ahead

Madness - even WFP never goes XC without one!

Hacking over the weekend was fine, Monday night was exciting, Tuesday night was fine, Wednesday hack he decided he was bored of walk work thatnks and used the train going past as an excuse to try and gallop, plus the birds in the hedge were VERY scary, tonight remains to be seen, then 2 days of walker as I am away, then Sunday thank god I can start trotting
smirk.gif
I am very glad he only had 3 weeks off as it does mean I can do one week of walk work not two!
grin.gif

i was chatting to my instructor a few days before and she said she so quiet that weekend and monday only had one lesson booked ..... that the only reason i remember not too ride.

hope you're ok now
smile.gif

Oops!
Oh the loving neck strap!
Mine was grabbed a few times whilst getting on the twat last weekend as he spent the first day standing up when I wanted to go forward out of the yard.
My reaction now is like you, fingers go straight under as an immediate reaction as soon as a horse gets a bit tense lol

Yes...don't you just love them! I am 2 weeks into riding again after a 6 month break...my horse was glad to get out again at first and plod about but he has now decided it is too much trouble and wants to be in his field again!!!! I have just got back from a plod about the block where it really would have been easier to get off and let him ride me...at least we might have got somewhere!!!!!
smile.gif
He is the most stubborn, pig headed, cantankarous (sp), awkward little so and so the world has ever met!!!
But I do love him and keep going back for more!!!!!

LOL, I am still in pain but that is because I do not ride enough without stirrups
grin.gif
I could not get on at all elegantly on Tuesday night, and was cursing how high the cantle is on my dressage saddle. Still no stirrups though - determined to do a week of it!

Whilst my superb riding means I never use a neckstrap as such, I do find my TB needs a breastplate at all times.
People have queried this, as her belly is so large there is no hope of the saddle ever moving...but pah?! what do they know?
Nothing to do with her being a rearer when younger

Yes- my breastplate is purely for the sadle too...... Definitely need it with my dressage saddle!!

She was doing these stupid rears followed by bucks- I'd call it fly-bcking but the rears were more suspended than your average fly-buck- and she was spinning round in the process. Darn horse!!

I am not to proud to ride with a neckstrap, extremely handy bits of kit! I also have a balance strap on my saddle and when I got to the new yard one of the girls said 'I see you have an oh sh*t strap'!!

love 'em.!

Actually its quite interesting regarding neckstraps, i used to work in a racing yard and we never went of the yard without one! I actually never ride without one either, they are invaluable if something rears.

i also use a neck strap because i havnt ridden properly in years and my balance is cack as i found out when instructor told me to stand up while walking around the arena, i couldnt do it for love nor money! balance strap is the one that connects to the D rings isnt it ? would it be worthwhile investing in one of those to?
