I used to work at a yard and I have one of the yard owners horses on loan, but I moved him and my own youngster to another yard so I could have them together and have a menage! Anyway, about 3 years ago when I was working there the YO and the yards neighbours, (a nice family, 3 daughters) ended up getting this pony. I wasn't too sure how it all came about and I think the YO was contacted about this pony seeing if she could give it a home and the neighbours also went to look at it for loan. Jasmine the pony then came to live at the yard, the family got her on loan. At the time I didn't know the girl (katie) they loaned her from but a year or so later I went to work at a polo yard where she also worked. Now when Jasmine arrived we didn't know much about her, we were told that Katie had rescued her. She didn't have a passport and from what I can remember she came looking ok, she's a fat 13.2hh newforest/welsh pony so looked like she needed some tlc but we were told whilst she's been with Katie she hadn't done much apart from ridden a few times and lived out. She has now been there 3 years or so and I have asked Katie a few times more about her but i've always been told she was rescued and the owners had just given her to them. So today I got a phone call...'Hello Jennie i've been given my number by katie and told you have my pony on loan'...Umm No?!' So I told her all I knew and the lady who owns her, Sam, said she had put her out on loan to Katie as didn't have a car so couldn't ride her much and was pregnant. Katie then got a job at polo and couldn't ride her either so tried to put her out on loan without telling the owner Sam. Sam said she heard something about this so I don't understand why she didn't do what it seems to be nothing about it as Jasmine came to us without a fuss and we had no idea about the owner. Sam told me abit about the time she had Jasmine and she described her very well, a grumpy little cow but was not rescued from Sam, however was rescued by the previous owner as a two year old before Sam brought her at 4!! Sam said Katie had not answered her calls about a year ago so they had gone to Katies house and asked Katie where Jasmine is, Katie who knew full well where she was wouldn't say but gave them my number and said I had her on loan. Bearing in mind this was about a year ago I have no idea why she rang me today? I have told them where the yard is and they are on there way to see her, I've tried calling YO but no reply and I know the girls who have her on loan are at private school during the week but maybe their mum will be at home who lives in the house next to the yard so they should go speak to her. Now Sam said they don't want her back, just want to see her and make sure she is well. Sorry for rambling and I hope I havn't repeated myself too much! I'm still confused. Have I done the right thing, should I of told them where she was or given them the YO and loaners numbers?

its her horse, you did the right thing. if you where in sam's situation you would have liked you to told the truth. i hope its all cleared up and lucky you where the connection or she would still be searching.

Having my own youngster and a horse on loan I would hate to be in her situation. I keep in regular contact with loan horse's owner, letting her know how is he and she'll text me from time to time just to ask how he is. Now I know how she would feel if she heard nothing from me for ages and then found out i'd put him out on loan to someone else and wouldn't tell her where he was!
