ok so i was told ebs can still be turned out , i can still ride her monday [even tho there by her girth] and she can still compete next week with ringworm
i thought she couldt do any of this ?
 
follow the vets instructions, not yard know-it-alls.

i wouldnt be taking a horse with highly infectious ringworm anywhere, unless your willing to pay for everyones vet bills when it spreads.
 
I'd steer clear of competing at the moment. The last thing you want is for another horse to catch the ringworm and for all fingers to point at you! I'd clarify everything with you vet if you're worried. Vets know their stuff - other horse owners only have opinions which may or may not be right! Good luck! ;)
 
you are best to avoid put unnecessary materials near it as it just makes more work for you to disinfect. TBH from your posts it wouldn't do your horse any harm having a little break. i wouldn't compete as you make yourself (well your parents) liable to be sued for compensations for knowingly spreading a contagious infection. be sensible about it disinfect anything and everything that comes in to contact with her to minimize the risk of spread to other horses or humans. and if in any doubt ring your vet thats what you pay them for!
 
Ringworm is a fungus that lives on keratin.

It's very contagious to other horses, humans, dogs, cats etc so it is vital that anything that touches it - you, tack, rugs etc - are thoroughly washed/disinfected.

I wouldn't leave the yard and certainly wouldn't turn out with other horses!

If it's by the girth it may well rub and be sore.

As others have said; listen to your vet. He/she will have given you the right advice. :)

My friends pony has had this, she was told to keep him stabled and wash and disinfect everything, she had different clothes just for handling him!

Once he was clear his whole stable was cleared, disinfected. All rugs were disinfected and pretty much anything there was any chance he had touched was well cleaned/destroyed! fortunetly he wasnt in a field with wooden fencing anyway which obviously helped matters.

Be careful and only ever take vet advise, everyone else is just a know it all tbh!
 
As what the others have said, dont listen to what this person says. Anybidy that would happily let there horse travel with a horse with a contagious disease obviously hasnt got there horses best interest at heart!!:(
With the riding now your controling the ringworm it wont be long before the round patches stop being pink, you dont nessary have to wait for all the hair to grow back to ride.:)
As soon as the round patches stop being pink im sure (check with your vet to confirm this mind you) thats when your horse is no longer contagious, although im sure you have to carry on treating for some time.
 
Are you for real OP? Sorry but your threads seem so uneducated, I am glad that you are asking advise but it seems that you dont have any basic idea about horsemanship.

She's only 14!! Be careful about being nasty to her. I once made a glib comment about her spelling and I nearly got burned at the stake for it!
 
So what that shes 14! I knew what ringworm was when I was 14 and I came from a non horsey family. pastie2- i know what you mean, some stuff she asks is abit unbelievable!
 
I know she asks silly stuff, although least shes asking, we all had to learn somewhere. But to be fair it was somebody else that told her it was ok to take it competing.

I know you're right, but I have had the wrath of the fluffy bunnies before and I got scared....so I tell everyone that their horse is beautiful, that they are right and that I agree with them....so much easier!!

I am.....I had my confidence knocked when I got called "nasty" by a bunny hugger and told that my comments were "unnecessary".....I think I am on my way to a breakdown, all brought on by H&H forum. My red wine consumption has increased, and I find myself bingeing on junk food. I put my PJs on at 6pm and am rocking in my chair as I speak. Both my horses are injured, and my dog is neurotic. I am going to bang my head on the wall for a while....
 
Have to agree with Patsie2.
I do wonder though if the forum members continue to respond so helpfully time and time again, because they are genuinely worried that the OP is indeed for real, and are concerned for the well being of pony/horse.
Oops there go the egg shells.
 
In the end we all had to learn somewhere. Is it not better for OP to ask these questions than to think she knows and to do it incorrectly? I thought this forum was for asking advice about things we dont know about. she obviously didnt know about ringworm. I am 38 and I have only just learnt exactly what it looks like.
Yes I agree sometimes the posts from Op are a bit bizarre, but the way it is going against this poor girl, I wouldnt be surprised if she is gonna be too worried about asking anything else.
 
I'm getting fed up of "higher than thou" people calling other forum users "fluffy bunnies" just because they don't write rude, nasty or unnecessary replies to peoples posts.

Personally i can't work out if the OP is a complete muppet or is pulling our legs with most of the subjects she posts but if can't believe what your reading or think it's a joke then let it go, move on to the next post where you can make your snide comments.

It's not just this post, it's the majority of posts on this forum. If you haven't got an answer to the OP's question then leave it to people who do. There is no need to pick up on spelling, punctuation, the age of the poster etc...Just stick to the point and stop trying to start an argument.

Posts normally go Question, couple of answers, b1tch brigade picking holes in either the question or answers already given, people defending either the cowbags or the OP and then it drops off the first page and everyone is on to the next post.

OP - Don't take your horse off your yard, don't let her mix with other horses until you have had the all clear from the vets. Wash all your tack, grooming equipment and clean out your stable. It's highly infectious and can transfer from your horse to humans and other animals.

While i agree that this forum is great to get answers to horsey problems, perhaps you should also use your computer to "Google" things like this and once you have the basic info and still need clarity then come on here for advice. That may cut down on the negative comments you get.
 
Hmm.

Guys, we all need to learn somewhere! I'm the same age as OP and joined 2 years ago when I was much younger and have asked my fair share of numpty questions. Give her a break. There's being a fluffy bunny and then there's just plain rudeness. Happy medium, maybe? xx
