Have I priced him incorrectly?

I’ve been put off doing more with him and having him half started as I don’t want anyone thinking he has been backed and a bad job done so sold as half the job done! If I were looking I’d prefer a blank canvas. Maybe I’m wrong.

I'd also personally prefer a blank canvas, the problem is I'm quite cynical and wouldn't trust that a horse at backing age hadn't had someone attempt to back it and then passing it off as unstarted if they'd failed.

If he’s a genuine 13.2 he won’t struggle with your weight for basic backing assuming his fitness is good He’d be approx 400kg? Maybe not what you want to do but if he’s easy then he’s much easier to sell backed and hacking ready to go on.

I've not seen said cheap unbacked class 1 Connie on my searches...

As for OPs pony, I also think back him. Hard market otherwise as you're aiming at a very small subset of adults.

If you’re happy to back him, then do! It will make the world of a difference to finding him a new home. Lots of small adults would buy something recently backed where they wouldn’t unbacked, as they have families and don’t want to take the risk that something doesn’t take to being ridden easily and they get hurt.

60kg on a chunky 13.2hh is fine. It’s not like you are on long at the beginning, plenty of time for him to build muscle to carry you.

Facebook just showed him to me I think . I was expecting something with more bone/hairier he’s cute.
Nice markings and a good front but looks like he’s going to be pretty short back wise for anyone on the taller side but it might be deceptive because he’s stood at an angle.

I’d definitely get some better photos, I’d want to see lower legs and hooves with him stood up well.

I love him and thought what a smart little driving pony he would make. Hes not a coarse hairy type, and would be so eye catching with his markings.

You’ve got a limited market for a small wide one that is unbacked. I don’t think the price is unreasonable. I’d be inclined to do all the groundwork and bitting/saddling whilst he is advertised and keep an eye out for a local diddy teenager to do the sitting on. Then by spring you should hopefully have a backed pony at a time when people really start looking.

TBH this time of year I would £1000 or less, because the buyer is going to have to keep it till March to do any real work and find someone to back it. If its very pretty you may get more, and it will have to really good or have a lot more miles on the clock before the market pool is larger.
I now buy as stores only anything to make over 14.2, unless its a Highland.

that height is tricky market as usually (not exclusively) kids, I would back him and try get him out to a few low key events, pop the photos up and advertise him slightly higher. Your pricing is not bad at all. Maybe advertise him on some spotty pages on facebook.

It doesn't seem too much money but I'm not up to date on ponies. I would say that in the last 2 months the weather has been terrible, I've had flooding, snow, frozen ground and wind and wouldn't have wanted to travel to view let alone buy another horse.

I think that would put a lot of people off, so maybe this has a lot to do with it, OP. He sounds lovely from your description, and definitely not over-priced to me.

Perhaps if you make it clear in your advertisement that he is genuinely unbacked, as opposed to I-tried-but-stuffed-it-up, and wait for the weather to become more user-friendly, you would get lots more interest.

I measured him end of last summer - had to borrow a stick as don’t have one and don’t know anyone with one so a friend of a friend let me use it. He may have grown a little since then, but I think he has just got wider!

I didn’t bother renewing the horsemart ad as I didn’t get any calls or messages from it. A couple of enquiries from preloved. I’m considering horsequest, but that’s not the sort of place I look for cheaper horses so don’t know if it’s be worth the money.

Not the right shape for a little kid, although he certainly has the temperament for it. Husband is telling me to get on and back him, but I think I’m too heavy - 60kg. I’m a short ass so my height isn’t an issue

I don’t think you’re too big for him. I would back him and keep him if I were you.
