Just need to ask for opinions please.

I've seen an ad for a horse i'm VERY! interested in. She sound's like exactly what i'm after (if the ad has any truth to it) and shes with a dealer.

I e-mailed in the first instance and got a reply and replied myself asking for more info and asked prob way too many questions!

I've had no answer yet. (It has only been a day but they replied to my first email only a couple of hours after i sent it.) Might my many many questions have put them off?

If they really want to sell her it shouldn't make a difference how many questions I ask should it? Or does it? I've never bought a horse before and i'm clueless as to how it works!
 
If you're not free to ask as many questions as you like I wouldn't want to deal with that seller. However, you have to bear in mind these people are very busy at this time of year and probably don't look at their e-mails as often as the rest of us, I wouldn't panic yet, or just give them a call and chat through anything you want to know, its reasonable to cover all the important basics before arranging to view and a good seller won't mind this if nothing to hide, but as always don't believe everything you are told, dealers often don't know much about the past of the horses they are selling and make it up so go with eyes wide open, they are often a year of two younger than they state, and always use your own vet should you wish to buy, try in traffic and open spaces as well as school too. Good luck, what area are you in? A good dealer is well worth visiting and depending on your area people on here can recommend the good ones.
 
Im selling my horse at the moment and I find it more annoying when people keep emailing me. I have wrote a very detailed advert with lots of pictures and a jumping video so therefore when people email me asking for more information etc. it annoys me abit because if they wanted an indepth chat about my lovely horse, I would ratehr they rang up and if are still interested come and see for themselves what shes all about. So if your really interested ring up!! Also little kids who are in dream land tend to email alot, so bueyr dont take this seriously! Good luck :)
 
You should be able to ask as many questions as you want!! :)
Just give it some time and if they really don't reply, contact and ask them if you can go and see her :)

It make you sound more sincere - I recently sold two of mine and answered a few emails but if the same person repeatedly emailed me, and showed interest, I just asked them to ring.

Pick up the phone :p

It was a one line ad and one blury picture! I needed a bit more info then that really. I am going to ring. I've sent two emails. One asking if she's still available and when they responed I asked if I could have some more info before i make the trip to see her. Thats it. Not planning to email again. I'm really new at this so don't know the deal. I thought i was doing the best thing asking all these questions and getting the answers in writing. I thought it might help if something were to go wrong? Oh I don't know. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for the luck, think i need it! :)

Thanks for your advice. I'll try be a bit more patient but it's not one of my strong points. I thought it's unlikey i'll get the whole truth which is why i wanted it all written down. I was hoping that might give me a leg to stand on. I'm in Dorset by the New Forest.
 
Kellysheroes and one thanks for the replies. I will ring definitely i really like the look of her. I'm not a good talker my mind tends to go blank so emails easier for me but i'll phone, arrange a viewing and take a list as long as my arm of things to ask! Thanks again :)

Tell me about it, I hate talking on the phone with a passion :p

I usually forget everything I wanted to say/ask, so now I make sticky notes with everything I want to ask on, sad I know, but it helps me get through a phone call with out sounding like a bloody idiot :D :p

Im sure you'll be fine, and keep us updated! :D

Problem is i actually am an idiot so it's hard to get away with not sounding like one :rolleyes: You should have seen the list of questions! Not enough sticky notes in the world! :o
 
Can't have been that bad, I spent two hours on the phone once to someone wanting to buy one of my horses, she asked me every question under the sun, and I answered them. She then came, viewed the horse and took him home that same day. Two weeks later I just got another phonecall telling me he's everything she wanted, etc. At the time, it was a pain, now I couldn't be happier because both of them are happy and I know she knows everything she needs to about him :D

I'm sure your not an idiot ;) :p

And instead of sticky notes how about writing on yours walls? :p I think there might just be enough room there :p
 
Calling is definitely the way to go! I had countless emails when advertising my gelding. I replied to them all but it got very annoying as some people just wanted me to tell them how much a horse costs to run in general. Her excuse was she thought that at 12 stone she'd be too heavy..he's a well built 15.2 sec.d grr!

No not at all, I would expect to get my questions answered when I am spending my money and not theirs. Ask all your essential questions ie good on road/farrier etc does it kick etc over the phone. If you want to see it caught from the field ask them not to bring it in....
I usually groom with them and if they assure me it doesnt kick I will pick its feet and just get a feel for it(if you dont want to do this ask them first to do one side even)? But on gut instinct I just try to guage the horse myself.

You need to do with it what you would do with it ....once home.

I usually email first to see if is still for sale and if the ad is wooley ie good in traffic...I ask is it good with HGVs/motorbikes etc I want to know more. If they want it to go to a good home they shouldnt mind.

I hope its what you want but just go on your gut instinct..they will tell you what you want to hear...but you will learn. Make sure you take someone as if you have a doubt or pick up on something I bet they will as well

Cost to run...Alot! ;) I'll give them a ring. I think i asked ok stuff, only things relating to the actual horse, vices, ridden experience, how it's managed etc.

Thank you that was reasuring to hear. All i've done so far is ask if it's available and for more information cus there was very little on the ad. Phew nice to know other people have done that too. I'm worrying about this far too much i know i am!
I think i'm going in with my eyes open. I think i know what i need and it's not much i'm only after a happy hacker but it does need to be safe. Oh this horse hunting thing is hard work!
 
I am ONLY after a happy hacking horse and they are hard to find....I didnt realise it was going to be this hard..you will often find me on this forum as I have too much time on my hands being horseless for riding....Today I drove past a stables and nipped in as they had a big billboard up saying Horses for sale............urgh! Had a nice chat anyway but get the impression that not many people hack these days???...we have lots of menages etc pop up around my area...so I think people are less likely to ride out?

Good luck...you need to ask and ask. You will get good at it.....and have it down to a fine art form..(but I hope not) just wait...it will drive you nuts!

Just make sure you try to do all the checks etc and not just take their word for it..I have met a couple of honest ones..but rare.

Yeah only wasn't the right word. I meant it in a doesn't need flowing paces, flawless jump type way but every ad i've seen so far have been for little jumping machines or the like! Where are all the happy hackers?!
 
I am very old fashioned, lots of e-mails and texts really p me off. If you are interested phone, have a list of your questions, write down the answers and if it sounds OK take someone knowledgable and go and have a look.
I hate the 'knowledgable freind', because most haven't got a clue. A good one only asks what you have missed out and is a witness to any answers in case there is a dispute but mainly they are there to spot anything you may have missed and be a second eye.
I've bought a few and I think the main thing is to sus the real reason why they are selling, if its that good why are they moving it on?
One year I bought a shireX from the sales, he was sold quite to ride and went for just above meat money. He was so good I thought he was stolen as I could not understand how he ended up in a sale and the vender just left him. Though his freeze mark I found out he had belonged to a equestrian centre and I assume because it was F&M year they had cut down and as he ate gigantic amounts cost too much to keep. I sold him to a lady who just wanted a quite pet to hack, when I advertised him for a modest amount I must have had 30 phone calls because he was quite and sold him to the first viewer.
