Have just rang up to put name down for first dressage test (take 2) ..

As due to her blood clot on the leg a few months back I had to cancel .

So shes now had 5 months off and came back into work yesterday and went super .

She was out today and did a proper jump

There is an affiliated/unaffiliated dressage show on at the end of this month .

I think she could do a wee Intro test even just to get her used to dressage boards/other horses etc ......So have put her down for one

Good luck - although is it just me, but if your horse has just had 5 months off and you started riding yesterday - how come you have jumped today?! My horse has had months off, been back in work for 2 weeks, and I am dubious of doing something in December!
 
Good luck! Go for a little prelim, its only one canter on each rein

Bear was out of work for 2 months as I had no farrier, within a week of being back in work he did a prelim test, we came 6th out of 12! It was our 1st ever attampt!

I have to say I am quite surprised that after 5 months off you have even attempted any of this. At her young age surely its all about bringing her back in slowly and gently.

I obviously do keep my fingers crossed there are no more injuries though.

Totally agree with Hellspells on this one I'm affraid. I was always taught that you bring them back into work slowly and gently and start off long reining and hacking building the work up gradually.

She thrives on the work , For her to listen that little bit more, I have decided to get R to pop her over a fence, She then becomes more forward and finishes off the session nicely .

Like I say ......Shes been brought on very slowly ..... She is doing super and I wouldn't do anything to jeopardise her schooling .

I know my horse and I know what I am doing

Really ... think about it ...... She has been loose schooled and lunged a few times , The ridden work was only started yesterday .


I hope this clears things up for those that are worrying over her .

I think the concern was more on her fitness level than any thing else, personally if mine had 5 months of I would like to walk for at least two weeks and then walk and trot for a furthur two weeks.

It not only fitens but strengthens the horse, making any injury a lot less unlikely.

But it is your horse and I am sure you are following veterinary advice.

She has been long reined and lunged in between .

Sorry nothing personal or really regarding your post .

But I said in my other post ...... First time ridden in 5 months ....She has had work in between that .

Do people think after all the time I have spend with missy that I would just pull her in from the field/out of the stable and pop on her and jump her ?????????

Anyone who 'knows' Colleen on here or who has met her in real life will (or definitely should) know how well she cares for Missy and just how much time and consideration has been given to her training.

The quote above does make it sound like she has done no work at all, either ridden or non-ridden, for 5 months, so you can't really blame people for being concerned! Sometimes, it is a good idea to read over a post again before pressing 'submit' just to see what you have written is actually what you really mean!

Glad to hear she is back in work and going well though!

TGM ... I appreciate what your saying ...... The majority of folk that posted on this thread have looked at my posts before, Several have went on to apologise .

I think some folk in this place like to get pernickity (sp ? ) about posts ...... *disclaimer ... in general *

CC Cheers ..... I do my hardest for that mare, I put in all the hours god sends for her and it riles me when people think I don't do whats best for her .

I have read your posts on here before too, but there are thousands of users on here now and it is difficult to remember the circumstances of all of them. With hundreds of new threads every day, most people don't have the time to trawl through all of a user's previous posts before answering, they just go on what the poster has put in the post itself. If that is actually different from the real truth of the matter then surely that is the fault of the poster, not that of the responders?

Nobody seemed to be rude or nasty, just questioned the fact that you seemed to be doing things differently from the way they would do it themselves, so the banging of your head against a brickwall seemed a bit OTT, IMO!
 
Well yes it did seem a bit over the top when you could have just said straight away "Sorry, my mistake for wording the initial post in such a misleading way" rather than saying things like "Shoot me now!", "drama, drama" and such like that made it sound like the responders were stupid not to know the real truth when they were only going on what you had written yourself! I know you did eventually admit that your wording was at fault, but that was after a lot of dramatics first!

Thats ok. I don't post on here often any more as its changed a lot and with so many new users these days its hard to keep up...Glad no offence was taken, I (like most) cant be bottomed to trawl through previous posts to try and clarify things so take posts at face value.
