ok I have not been on the internet for 2 weeks and have come back and found that horse prices have gone mad!!

Just visited Horsequest as we are selling our eventer and just wanted to look at prices and wording of adverts and so many of the horses were over £10k and so many of these had done not alot!!

what is the world coming to?!

Yes I truly think the world has indeed gone mad. I am making no complaints though as a seller, as with price increases it keeps bread in my basket. However as a buyer? No way would I pay these prices....and I don't.

Go out and buy youngsters and bring them on yourself is what I say.

Yes people have gone bannanas.
A friend just paid £26k for a 9 year old horse that has had countless refusals at intermediate level eventing!!
I cannae unnerstand it!

its making pricing ours difficult as we don't want to put her up for stupid figure, but at this rate she looks cheap!! all we want is a nice competition home for her!
after uni i'm going for a nice average youngster to bring on, get the most success with them than with the older horses i buy!!

That's what I think too! it serves people right for wanting a "Made Horse". TBF, if some one has one and it is fab, why would you let it go for less than a lot when you have to pay a decent amount for a baby?

for example, my mum has a fairly plain IDxTB who is the best hunter EVER and is great affil SJ and eventing, open team chased, brill dessage and she can send 8 yr old out hacking on him.. she wouldn't take 15k for him but can you blame her?

I do see yor point though, and it;s not just horses - houses, petrol, rates etc..... my wage aint gone up so much tho

Argh! But what about the people without the experience to bring on a youngster?? We're all going to have to raid banks!!

I don't know how much it costs in England to send a horse for training but here it is around 150 a week. For 600 - 1,000 you could end up with a horse with a decent amount of training under it's belt.....then get yourself an instructor who can help you both beyond that.

Going down this route just has to be cheaper than spending that sort of money on a horse with not much more knowledge.

I know the problem. I am looking for an aged 11hh ish pony, been there, done that ready to semi retire, no vices, 101% safe for kids.
and the prices are ridiculous. If they want that for a 11hh pony I dread to think what i'll be paying for a half decent 14.2hh later in the year.

yes its gone crazy, the cost of a good horse has absolutely rocketed! My sister will no doubt be wanting something bigger that has been there and done it to give her confidence, and I dread to think what that would cost!

As someone who buys cheap horses and usually peoples mistakes - I have come to the following conclusion.

1) People are over horsing themselves - do you really need to spend £10k on a horse to jump 2'6 and do novice dressage?

2) People think they are better than they are and so buy youngsters and then ruin them with lack of experience/support.

3) Just because someone is asking a silly price does not mean the horse will sell.

thats the thing people are paying these prices or is this my poor student side coming out of me and just wish i had that much money to spend in general not just on a horse.

i believe the more money u spend the more money your likely to loose. I have seen several people i know whose parents have brought them these horses over 20k and then the kids can't ride them and the horse gets ruined!

a nice little 3k horse will get u round a novice test and little jumping course.

but then when you put up a horse at say under 10k they still expect the horse to have a faultless record! if it was faultless wouldn't it be up for more?

i could really rant about this but will restrain myself before i maked no sense!
