Just spoke to the vet because the lumps have moved to under the back of saddle along the panel although they aren't as big as they were last night.

I told him about new numnah and how it was only on one side.

He said it was an inflammatory reaction to the numnah and the lumps will move about and settle down. Nothing to worry about although not to ride him for a couple of days. He said to go back to using the slightly thicker numnah and it should be fine. The new numnah (half wool nuumed one) is quite abrasive until being washed and horse is pretty sensitive.

The reason for it being on one side and not the other is due to him being slightly more built up on one side and so pressure slightly more. Using the thicker numnah should sort this out.

Phew!! Poor horse. Thankfully I can ride and lead so will do until it goes down and he's having his back done by back lady on Weds so will make sure saddle ok and then he can have a few days off to recover. No hunting this week - my week off - but still. I'd FAR rather he felt better than make it any worse.

Thanks for all advice last night.

Much appreciated.

Good to hear you've got to the bottom of it

I have the same issue with my horse (being more built up on one side) and saddler refitted his saddle with a Prolite pad that has more padding on one side than the other. Might be worth considering?
