hello everyone,

Havent posted for a while since getting my results etc

I have taken the plunge and moved to the new yard.... and am feeling a bit :S about it..... Rocky isn't settling that well - he is horrible to ride. I almost came flying off him on Friday night as they all ride very fast, we got left behind and it was all a bit too exciting for him. I am going to try and ride him tonight in the school but he is just like a live wire at the minute. I am also worried as tonight is the last night I can ride before my op tomo

How long does it take to settle into a new yard? Both for horse and owner? We have been here a week and a half now?

Hi - dont worry some take longer than others to settle. If i was you i wouldn't worry about riding him at the moment. Just give him time to settle.

I am sure in a month or so he will be fine!

My mare took a while to settle when i got her but she is fine now -honest.

Dont give yourself a hard time

A week and a half is no time at all so don't worry. Some horses take a couple of months to get the hang of new surroundings and routines.

Why not shove him on the lunge before you get on tonight if he's a bit uptight still, then let him have a bit of chill out time while you rest after your op?

When you do get back to riding, find one person at a time to go riding with who just wants to go for a plod.

Hope it all goes well tomorrow.

A week and a half is no time at all. I only moved yards a week and 2 days ago but it feels like we have been there forever and I keep just expecting my lad feels the same lol. Today is the first day I have ridden him properly and he has felt almost his old self. Since we have moved I have hardly ridden and if I have then I have lunged him first just to make sure he doesn't have a nasty surprise waiting for me as he is quite fresh atm as well. The only hacking I have done is 10 minutes down the lane and back with my OH walking with me twice. Just take it slowly, try and find maybe 1 person to go with who will take it at a slower pace while he settles. Hope your op goes well and you and your lad are back to riding as normal soon x

Thank you guys - I lunged him tonight and he had a few yeeha's.... then I just sat on him and walked round the school a little bit. I have arranged for him to be lunged whilst I can't ride. So hopefully by the time I am back in the swing of it he will be a bit more relaxed.

Going to try and get to bed now as I am tired and nervous about tomorrow!
