As the title really - have you done it before, would you recommend it? Is it super busy? What are the fences like - big??

A couple of us are considering it for a bit of a pootle and the odd log pop (friend prob not me :)) but we werent sure if it would be manic or quite orderly!!?

Any thoughts gratefully received

I used to be head groom on the estate- its lovely :D

Its a busy ride but not the manic rush that some are. I think it would be ideal for you as the jumping is 99% island fences so VERY easy to get past :) the fences are usually 2 heights either 18" or 2'6 with the odd bigger one. Then there is the river crossing ;)

We used to hack round after the ride and amass a huge collection of dropped whips/pulled off boots etc. They sat in the tackroom but no one ever came back for them :confused: i'm fairly sure that the person who lost a stirrup leather & iron in the river MUST have noticed :eek:

2 other rides worth considering are the Stratfield Saye ride in July and South Oxfordshire in September/October :) The Riding Diary has a section devoted to fun rides too :)

Yes :)

Lots and lots of times, can be busy try and get either early or late start. Jumps are mini even the bigger options are not big. Has two river crossings which can be deep if it has rained alot. Its a fun ride and worth doing. :)
 
cool thanks for the replies will definitely go for early start or more likely late one!

That made me laugh out loud about the stirrup leather and iron, classic, you would have hoped someone would miss it, unless they carried a spare!!??

Hopefully we will get round without losing anything (main challenge will be not losing the horse!!) :)

Most jumps are small, think about size of small bale of hay and tend to be laid out in runs of about 6, but spread out - you don't need to count paces inbetween or anything. There is lots of room so no problem if you want to bypass. The river crossing is fun but again you can easily bypass it. Have never found it too busy but have tended to have a late start time. Ground is like old pasture round headlands of fields so good going even if wet or dry. There are some flinty tracks.
 
Actually the start is the busiest time, so I recommend later on in the morning when there are plenty of quieter times. Bags of space then. The ride is definitely going ahead on Easter Monday as planned
