Not all meat horses are bred for the purpose - many old workhorses from eastern European countries are transported long-distance to slaughter. I would not eat any meat that might have come from such suffering, just like I don't eat battery chicken. I always choose high welfare meat, and at the moment I do not believe it is possible to choose high welfare horsemeat, as there is no way to know whether or not the meat has come from a happy horse or one that has been dragged halfway across Europe, owing to the fact that the meat is labelled as a product of ther country in which the horse is slaughtered, not where it was raised.
