have you even used your heavy rugs yet?.

Mines managed to be in her 250g turnout & either a heavyweight stable or a fleece & Meduim combo for mild nights !
She's quite warm but loses weight easily so have to find that balance!

One of mine is a poor doer and is normally in a HW TO with a HW indoor underneath and a amigo liner!(clipped out completely) this year he has done great and has been cosy enough in his MW TO with his HW stable rug and when in at night the HW rug with the amigo liner! My other one has also stayed in his MW with a liner and my two retirees have been fine in LW but when the weather was a bit chillier they got there MW on
It's been great not having to dig out the HW this year!

Both mine are fully clipped and out in 450gs in the day, and 350gs overnight. It's very exposed out in the fields but warm in the barn away from the rain. Obviously some horses need heavyweights, what a stupid sweeping statement

nope bought a brand new one in Aug for my 3yr old, which I expect wont fit him next year! its been tried on and packed away since then! gerrrr!!

my 29yr old mare has been fully clipped, and not in need of anything over a medium, some times I feel she is too warm in that! they have light weights on today/tonight

Yes as he's fully clipped inc legs. When the weather was particularly bad he had a cooler under it.

He's also had various combinations inc his heavy weight quilt at night. He was recently reclipped so not much hair regrowth. He is also the pathetic sort!

The silly t*t also won't wear a neck cover so it's just a heavy weight with no neck.

Fully clipped WB mare been in thin stable rug and rain sheet with cotton sheet underneath pretty much whole winter so far , it has been so mild hardly ever below 3 degrees at night and that's in NE Scotland and averaging around 5 during day.

My brand new HW and MW has not been used I bought her

Lucy has a 250gm full neck under rug & a 375gm full neck turnout on !! 😕

On sunday it was beautifully sunny so I just put her turnout on but she had her under rug back on at night

Shes fully clipped

I'm NE Scotland too, and my high chase clipped TB is in a HW with two liners!! He's feeling the rain and wind way more than the snow last year - and the last few weeks there's been a few nights around 0 to -2 when you consider windchill. However mine does live out.

My wimpy hunter-clipped mare hasn't been in anything heavier than her 300g this year, the heavy rugs are still neatly packed away. TB x has been cosy in his 250g and the unclipped one hasn't been out of his no fill yet!

Have used my heavyweights on their own but usually at this time of year, my Appy is wearing his combo under rug and a heavyweight but think I've only used them both together once this year!

Yes my 21 year old hunter wearing his 8 year old PE 400g heavyweight. However its so old I don't think its really heavy weight anymore.

He has worn it most of the winter and stays nice and toasty in it. Its 6 deg here today. Any other horse of mine would be in a MW at the moment but he's a bit different. I don't want him to get cold and he's out 10 hours a day in all weathers. He also had a hard day's hunting yesterday so i'd rather his achy muscles were kept warm!!

My TB poor doer is in 200g PE Turnout rug all the time. Anything more and he sweats, I don't think I will ever need a HW for him. All HW I have ever put on him he rips and sweats in.

Only on my fully clipped welsh mare.
I honestly don't see the need for rugs over 350, just seems a bit excessive imo? But each to their own.
The only reason my welsh was in a 350 was a couple of nights it has dropped quite low temps and she kept pulling it off the wall, point taken!
